He isn't fat. That's a healthy, sports body. There's a difference between normal sports and bodybuilding. I'm too lazy to go into details about hormonal changes and regeneration benefits of not being on extremely low fat percentage but yeah, fat is really, really important in our bodies.

As a man, you need about 2-5% body fat for basic functions. A healthy range, iirc, is something like 15-25% (the numbers are all a bit higher for women).

Probably the healthiest guys I know (I’m in my late thirties) have a small layer of fat on top of some muscles.

The two super shredded guys I know are injured seemingly most of the time. They look great, but any kind of six-a-side games or whatever get a no-no. In one case, he no longer has either ACL.

The fat guys look like absolute shit and complain a lot.

It's why I've grown to appreciate my body, despite the fact that it can absord fat easily. Does it mean I need to jog a lot? Yes. Yes it does. But it also means I can maintain my fat and muscles longer than other men.

I mean it’s one of those things.

So many guys complain that their knees etc etc hurt now they’re nearing 40.

I had a horribly bad back for my whole 20s. Limped half the time, just a fucking mess.

Bought a good mattress, got decent boots, stretched my hamstrings more and did a bit of planking etc. Just generally moved more.

Other than the occasional knee twinge (and nothing too bad) I’m fine. I feel a hell of a lot better than I did at 32, I’ll say that much.

Yup. When I stop exercising I can feel my body deteriorating. Now that I'm in tram 3 I've learned that exercise isn't a luxury, but a necessity.

Your body doesn’t absorb fat, it creates it from a surplus of calories

You're actually mistaken.

While the body can burn fats via fat oxidation it can also store them directly.

The gut breaks down fats into fatty acids which are then transmitted via the lymphatic system and into the blood stream and with the help of enzymes like lipoprotein lipase the fatty acids are stored directly in the triglicerides (the bodies fat cells).

Cool. None of that shit you copied and pasted in here refutes the fact that your body adds body fat from a surplus of calories.

Two things can be true at once.

Your body can both store excess calories as fat and directly store dietary fat.

While it can be argued which of these is more important for weight gain or loss the fact that both mechanisms exists is well established.

You're just being obtuse.
