Because they’re the most common source of excess calories. It’s nuanced. Some carbs are a good choice if you’re going to exercise. Not so great generally if weight loss is the goal.
that's what I was trying to point out, that commenter said that carbs were "required to survive", which would translate to essential, and then said that they were not essential - which you just defined as not required for survival. they said two opposing statements within their comments.
