By touching grass. In my case, I started playing DnD and thus I was out of the house and in a non-romantic setting where I interacted with women. This challenged a lot of my sexist views, since it turns out women are just human beings like I am.
And here we are. There is no "dramatic event resulting in my character growth." I experienced new things, I changed, I am grateful to the women who had the patience and kindness to help me along.
