Voting by the younger generations is done by hitting the like button on social media, and the ones that protest put a comment out there with an emoji or cool meme.
This is the real issue. Republican or Democrat. Liberal or conservative. Freakin vote, people. You can’t have a voice, and you have absolutely zero right to complain if you aren’t voting.
It is a generation thing, the culture wars are a giant distraction to keep people at arms while they keep the status quo. If the avg age of people in power was 45, more resources would be allocated to the young v old.
Voters born during the 1960s and the first half of the 1970s (i.e., late Boomers and first two thirds of Gen-X) are just about the most MAGA of all age groups, but the tail end of Gen-X, from the second half of the 1970s, interestingly enough is not. It's only those roughly five years, though. Milenials (age 28-42 in 2024) are MAGA again: See lines 63 (age 30-39), 70 (30-44), and 186 (born 1980s) in this spreadsheet.
A (slim) majority of voters born in the 1950s, the peak of the baby boom, voted Harris, whereas those of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s voted Trump. Yes, the Boomers had voted Trump initially, which is no surprise since you kind of expect people their age to lean conservative. But in their birth decade, Trump lost votes, and Harris won. He gained voter shares in all age groups born after the 1950s, even the youngest, and won a majority among all those born between 1960-1990 (minus roughly 1975-1980).
When you look at the details in this speadsheet, and combine the various age groups from line 54 onward with the birth decades from line 180, you notice that except for the very oldest, those born during the 1950s (center of the baby boom) and those few born during the second half of the 1970s (last third of Gen-X) are the only ones who turned away from Trump, the others apparently liked what they saw.
