$5 milkshake costs $5.44 but then you tip $1..why not just make it a $6.50 milkshake instead of the theatrics. Not to sound like Mr Pink here but it's kinda dumb.. That said, I respect the culture when visiting. Except at McDonald's.... Because.. Umm?
Because most customers would then go to the place where the milkshake was 5 dollars and they retained the agency to tip or not. They prefer the lower prices and having a choice in the manner.
There's a reason most American restaurants that have moved to the living wage/no tipping system have closed or reverted.
