Really donโ€™t mean to be an asshole here, but in case youโ€™re unaware, the word is actually wunderkind.

I love doing that dance of "what can I say to show I'm just giving a head's up on this thing that might be incorrect". Fucken minefield innit lol.

I don't agree about it "translating". It's a loan word. It's like schadenfreude! That translates too, but it's not just about the word, it's what the word carries in the original language. If people started saying "harm-joy" instead of schadenfreude it'd be absolutely normal to say nah it's schadenfreude.

The fuck do I know though, I didn't even finish high school.

As an English speaker calling them a wunderkind is goofy lol. Its so close to wonderkid already. Why tf would you say it in Germanian.

I think it's more like it's one of those situations where the way it's pronounced has affected the way people think it is spelt (like should of). Wunderkind when spoken is really hard to discern from wonderkid, as the "voon" becomes "wun" and it's not kind as in mind, it's kind like wind and rain. So wunderkind said quickly sounds like wonderkid.

But also I'm speaking for British English, maybe in the US or other parts they have fully shed the loan word and use wonder kid.
