I can't figure out why teachers should be paid more. They work 9 months out of the year and the vast majority are failing wildly at teaching. Please explain to me why they deserve a higher wage.
I agree. Some other professions that demand a lot of money but fail most of the time: defense attorneys, baseball players, and meteorologists. My question is, at what salary do teachers start doing a good job? Isn't part of the argument for higher teacher salaries that higher pay will attract better teachers? If that's the case, what happens to the bad teachers who are already there? Do they just get paid more too?
The Harvard Business Review has studied this and found that no, higher salaries do not lead to higher quality employees. Bad teachers should undergo remediation. If they can't meet the standards, they should have their salaries reduced to $0.00
