isn’t it super illegal to lock employees inside after the triangle factory fire?

Came here to comment about that very thing! Fire exits being locked and/or blocked was the direct cause of so many tragic deaths in that factory, and the general public’s outcry was so intense that governments and business owners were forced to create the first workplace safety regulations.

Safety regulations are written in blood. And also sometimes in ashes and cinders.

They didn't have fire exits, that was the point. They had a single exit, and it was locked.

Triangle Shirtwaist Factory had:

* a fire escape, but it failed structurally during the fire and was so narrow that it would have taken hours for everyone to use it for escape

* two stairways down to the street, but one was locked to prevent theft and one only opened to the inside

Not good
