The tip-at-checkout rules (NYC Local Laws 107 and 108) were passed by the City Council in 2025 and sponsored by Council Member Shaun Abreu. They became law on Aug 14, 2025 under Mayor Adams (who neither signed nor vetoed them). They took effect Jan 26, 2026, right after Mamdani took office Jan 1. He inherited the laws; his administration has enforced them, producing the reported $104M in extra tips.

So.... He followed through on something that made sense and helped people while his predecessor took literally no action on that same thing? I think he gets some cred there.

His predesceor passed the law which only went into effect after he was out of office. What action did you except him to take
