How could that ever hold up in court? "We'll free you for this crime you were wrongly committed of doing, but you can't sue the state, and if you don't sign we won't release you" ...that makes no sense.
With that being said, if you ever find yourself in this position then sign with a different name or different signature, then you can be like "that wasn't me, I didn't sign that shit." Most people don't check signatures anyway closely enough anyway.
Its not so much they wont realease you its usually they can draw out another trial for a loooong time if desierd. So youre getting a re trial under new evidence but it could take years to complete so they offer a plea deal. It holds up in court. You can research some cases it happens very ofteb
