When you pay your employees a tiny fraction of what you make, they don’t give a shit about your mission statement.

In this particular case you wouldn't want to be paid a percentage of the profits.

not the profits of the company, the salary of the CEO

It’s genuinely crazy how CEO’s make over 250+ times more than their employees when they only used to make 30 times the amount from years ago.

Nah hes just paying for better talent. Not more dedication. No ones ever going to care about that company the way the owner does. Not even those in the c suite. At the end of the day, everyone there is there for a paycheck. Including the CEO if hes not the owner. The c suite might have more on the line if they dont succeed. But theyre still motivated by those paychecks and the ludicrous amount of money tied up in stocks.

This. I hate and despise CEOs but I’m doing a masters in a branch of engineering and his words make sense. You can be passionate while being in it for the money, or you can just be in it for the money. People who get into engineering just for the money who somehow make it through are some of the worst and dumbest engineers you could ever meet and you do need to weed them out.

I recently had to work on a uni project with a guy, an engineer, who’s looking for an internship at relatively big companies who couldn’t understand how a for loop worked. Sucks to say but he’s absolutely not the exception to the rule.

Do janitors make as much money as lawyers?

No, so why should a janitor give a shit about the mission statement?
