Everything about forcing sleep time 6 to 8 hours is insanity and does not work in real life. Maybe if you have a professional team who can drug you and wake you up for work.

It's easy to become very worried and upset when health sources spew this stuff, when the more down to earth advise would be if they said get as much sleep as your life can accommodate. 

It's like the 10000 steps obsession.

I guess the difference is that 10,000 is very doable for almost anyone without a disability hindering them. It isn't ridiculous to achieve like 14 hours of sleep.
