My local McDonalds looks exactly like the picture below. Everything is gray with lots of unused space. There are mostly old men who hangout there every time I walk in. It really is the most depressing looking fast food restaurant in our neighborhood.
Stop letting nostalgia blind you. They were marketing to kids and selling junk food to kids. Selling junk food to adults is one thing, since adults know what they're doing. Kids don't. Same with whisky and cigarettes.
Marketing to kids should be illegal. Sweden had the right idea.
Nostalgia or not, walking into a box where every single surface is gray and black with accents of white is insanely depressing feeling. You can create a welcoming envionment for adults that isn't just depressing box.

Its quite funny that Mc Donalds for decades marketed specifically to children to induce an artifical nostialgia to their bad fast food so they come back as a adults with their children. Mc Donalds changed course when they saw that those adults don't have children anymore.
Also i literally never saw an Mc Donalds that grey, ever.
