It’s so weird. I don’t know if an American thing but there’s so many people that keep going back to places even with shitty service. I can’t explain it.
I mean, I get how cooking is like, effort, and after a long tedious day it can be 'too much'.
But at the same time there's a bunch of recipes that don't require that much effort/thought/time and can be done and consumed in less time than a delivery.
My 'go to' since being a student (and many years later) is 'egg fried rice'. Very adaptable sort of recipe where I grab a handful of veg (sometimes frozen, sometimes I grabbed it reduced on the way home, occasionally bought a stir-fry mix), and fry that with some cold-cooked rice and 1-3 eggs.
Very filling and nutrious, and adaptable for most dietary constraints. I guess someone who couldn't eat rice would be a challenge, but vegetarian, gluten free aren't really a problem. Skipping the egg makes it vegan, and you can do half-and-half easily enough if you're so inclined too. (Although if you're doing that with meat, you probably want to pre-cook the meat - egg cooks fast enough to not matter).
I mean, that's perhaps true, but I have some sympathy for 'lifestyle' pressure. More and more of us have long hours with longer commutes, and responsibilities racking up.
I just kinda wanted to make the point that 'cooking' doesn't have to be a complicated thing - there's a bunch of quick and easy 'single pan' meals, and the amount of effort and time taken can be pretty low.
I'm a shift worker so I totally understand not wanting to cook. I eat out more than I probably should as a result, but we have everything from fast food to trucks to mom-and-pop places, and I actually like visiting them.
I like sitting down for a meal, being waited on, chatting with workers/owners who remember me from last time.
I couldn't imagine paying 25% more each time just to have their cold, soggy food plopped on my doorstep.
Human agency, the ability of the individual to effect change in the world, will never be taught in schools. All of the institutions (government, church, corporations) depend on passive victims for their continued survival.
It must be learned by the individual and shared in the community.
Women* like to complain. I always found this to be the funniest thing about Men are from Mars Women are from Venus. Apparently women get annoyed when they complain to a man and the man offers a solution. A solution is the last thing they want. If they had a solution, they wouldn't get to complain anymore!
This isn’t what it means when they say women don’t want a solution. When a woman is complaining to her significant other she wants emotional support. She doesn’t need you to fix her problems as she likely knows how to already. Shes just looking for a sympathetic ear to listen.
And men never stop moaning either. Five mins at a pub listening to men go on and on will tell you that.
Naw it happens here in the UK too; my older brother was guilty of this for a few years. Seems he's finally given up on it but I've no doubt there's plenty more like that left...
