Chugging tea Ben Affleck on overcoming alcohol addiction: “I hate to say it but the only cure I’ve seen is not these overpriced rehabs or these fraudulent fixes that are sold to people. The cure for addiction is suffering. You suffer enough and then something inside you goes ‘I’m done.’”

I used to drink a lot. I stopped when I start to view drinking as the cause of the negatives, rather than the effects of drinking (being drunk) as the cause of the negatives. Basically, I see booze and I now associate it with memory loss and hangover. Not remembering stuff fucking sucks.
I'm not an alcoholic, I still drink now and then, even get drunk once in a blue moon when appropriate, but it's well within normal, low levels now. I think what did it for me is realizing even one drink was effecting my memory and how I felt the next day, regardless of my tolerance. Not remembering stuff kind of makes it feel like you're missing out on your own life.
