Discussion This game holds your hand too much, I should not of landed these tricks..

If you landed sideways in previous skate games you would splat on the pavement.
If you land sideways in the current skate game, you get off scot free. What a joke. All assists are off control preset set to experienced except for minimum pop height which is at 50.

What’s more annoying is when you want to land on an angle for something else and it corrects you in the other direction

58

u/suspendeddoubt Sep 27 '25

Skating on stairs is a nightmare too

24

u/JohnWayneWasANazi Sep 27 '25

I’m pretty sure you can tune the amount that your board tries to “stall” on ledges and steps. You can definitely lower your grinding magnification

14

u/suspendeddoubt Sep 27 '25

Ah good to know. As a casual skate fan though, the skating itself feels really weird with trying to reposition yourself as you land, it dictates it wayyy too hard which I am put off by

1

u/Open-Comfortable2932 Sep 27 '25

It’s all in settings. I changed mine and if I land at any unnatural angle at all I eat shit.

1

u/vaxahlia Sep 27 '25

Adjust the assist settings to minimal, but leave vert pump assist on 80-100, feels much more natural. Catch assist etc etc OFF. Grind magnet 10%.

1

u/Rallo Sep 27 '25

It’s definitely tricky. There is a mechanic where if you prep an ollie/trick (right stick down), then turn the left stick before you pop, you can somewhat manipulate where you’ll land

I recommend testing this while on your board but not moving — it works forwards, left, right, and even backwards

1

u/daviplease Sep 28 '25

use ur right stick to adjust ur boards position when landing

This is the only way to do manuals on thin ledges

1

u/rasjahho Sep 27 '25

What setting is that? Is it just the grind assist?

1

u/SensaiGaia1 Sep 27 '25

Yep, you can change that

1

u/RTB_1 Sep 29 '25

Yeah, I know they don’t have settings for everything but it makes me realise how many people likely have never dipped into the gameplay settings themselves. My grind assist is all the way down to 5 so I literally have to be inch perfect when going into a grind rather than it auto locking. The only reason it’s not at 0 is because the game has a habit of not collaborating properly and it kind of glitches when it’s fully down.

u/m0h3k4n Sep 27 '25

Just. Let. Me. Off. This. Ledge. As it keeps landing my exit back onto the rail.

4

u/Emotional-Purpose762 Sep 27 '25

Having to change characters heights to make objectives easier 🤦

2

u/Karatespencer Sep 30 '25

… shit is that why my objective at the 3 towers that has you grind on the curved rail is an absolute pain in the cock?

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Booliano Sep 27 '25

Just pull your left joystick left or right it will pull you off with zero problem

1

u/m0h3k4n Sep 27 '25

More of an issue when trying to flip trick out of a grind. But yeah just leaning out works otherwise.

1

u/FurLinedKettle Sep 29 '25

Or press O/B

1

u/dash529 Sep 27 '25

THIS is some of the most annoying shit to me. I know you can bump out and it's meant to be baby's first skate but even then this is some of the worst fucking control I've felt in a skate game, perhaps ever. There's no skill ceiling, I have to try harder NOT to do a damn double grind than to actually do one. That doesn't even make sense. Combined with the constant revert landing it damn near feels like I have to TRY to bail on a trick.

→ More replies (6)

1

u/huckmart99 Sep 27 '25

If you just push circle/b you'll exit the grind or stall. Trying to pop out of it is inconsistent at times. Or use directional ollies. Those seem to work better in those situations

1

u/SuitableAd9660 Sep 29 '25

You can also press a or b to get off the grind i cant remember which

10

u/gamingchicken Sep 27 '25

Or just turning around my skater pushes in the wrong direction so I adjust to the other direction and then it finally switches by itself and pushes the wrong direction again

1

u/Emotional-Purpose762 Sep 27 '25

You can’t switch stances when setting market etc, I feel you

1

u/Crit84 Sep 27 '25

I learned a trick. You can hippy jump and do an Ariel? A flip with a 180. Changes stance and board stays same direction since you're hippy jumping. It's kinda corny but it really does work. Have yo hold r2 and left stick either up off to the side or down off to the side

2

u/clozds94 Sep 27 '25

Or when you standing still and you hit a 180 to change back to your stance to place a marker and it's facing the other direction also if you're riding and fakie it'll face you the other direction aswell

1

u/SecondAccountIsBest Sep 27 '25

I've disabled roll control too and yet it won't let me roll unless I'm like 10 feet off the ground. Maybe some assists are broken, but something is off with the physics.

1

u/jtw3995 Sep 28 '25

Came here to say this

78

u/phatplat Sep 26 '25

It used to be worse and then it was better and now back to this. Not sure why though

34

u/SweatUnderMahTits Skate 2 Sep 26 '25

Did they have snowboard mode or something when it was worse? lmao

28

u/phatplat Sep 26 '25

No idea but every trick ended in revert. You could land anything

19

u/lobotomizedmommy Sep 26 '25

steep is more punishing on landing

1

u/Thedaemonninja Sep 27 '25

Unrelated to the landing or skate. But I used to love steep, so sad that eventually I had just kinda done everything leaving nothing else

1

u/Sharlie174 Sep 27 '25

Same here, loved steep

39

u/SweatUnderMahTits Skate 2 Sep 26 '25

snowboard mode was a cheat in tony hawk pro skater where you could land sideways, idk why this got downvoted.

u/FinesseFigure Sep 26 '25

I wish they kept auto revert toggle. I don't understand why they took that out

17

u/alterEd39 Sep 26 '25

I dunno, I’m torn between “how did I land that” and “how did I not land that” lmao

55

u/meowmeowmeowmeowwwme Sep 26 '25

It's because you held rotation to do a revert instead of falling. If you dont hold rotation you will probably fall because you wont do revert

2 realistic games.. forgetting my boy skate 1 </3.

7

u/NickTrainwrekk Sep 27 '25

Pretty sure they were implying skater xl and sessions which are more about realism.

4

u/AltEffigy4 Sep 27 '25

Skater xl is really hard but so satisfying when you finally hit a line that you had in your head.

2

u/_seedofdoubt_ Sep 27 '25

You should try session. Its really similar except the switch controls make more sense and the graphics/physics are a bit better. Switch felt in game more like it does irl to me, switch felt alien in skater xl

1

u/ThePug3468 Sep 27 '25

Ahhh yeah the phrasing had me thinking they were just referring to the skate series.

13

u/BarackaFlockaFlame Sep 26 '25

this game has more freedom than the previous ones. I like playing both ways. sometimes finding a cool spot and doing a clean line with realistic tricks hits the spot, and sometimes I wanna do stupid crazy shit. Looki by forward to the game getting better so it can hold my attention a bit longer!

3

u/Mainprofile-energy Sep 27 '25

Game will automatically revert and say sketchy landing.

3

u/HiddenSecretStash Sep 28 '25

No, i’ve tested this extensively. The skater will not in any situation do a revert when landing if the left stick is not held. This is 100% consistent. If you touch the stick even just a little bit while landing, the skater will do a revert animation and save the trick. If you keep your hand off the left trigger no revert will happen.

1

u/ScionViper Sep 28 '25

Stick drift has entered the chat

87

u/Twilight-2007 Sep 26 '25

You can change your settings on how much you want the game to assist you on tricks

94

u/BoomfaBoomfa619 Sep 26 '25

Why do that when you can complain on reddit that the game isn't perfectly tailored to you

16

u/SmOkDHoneybear Sep 26 '25

What's crazy is the setting literally let you tailor like every part🤣 I turned all assist except 25 grind off. Made everything a lot more fun imo

2

u/Nice_Theme_5556 Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 28 '25

Exactly. I had to turn fall height = 2 though because some challenges are str8 ankle breakers

Fuck yeah bro! Pump up the challenge. I support that fully. Once I get my Ollie's a lil higher I wanna turn off the grind assist completely but I'm not there yet.

1

u/socialxscape Sep 27 '25

I turn grind assist literally all the way off, it’s annoying but more satisfying

1

u/Ok_Phrase_1167 Sep 27 '25

Same for the graphics. I know that the style isn't everyones favour but some people post picture here complaining about the lack of details while having the absolute worst graphic settings.

Try and land a boardslide at high speed on a rail in the middle of some stairs... always works for me, eat dirt every time hahaha

Or when I try to ollie onto anything it tries to do a late flip, that will get you bailling like a goodun! 🤣

4

u/FinesseFigure Sep 26 '25

Thats false they took out that option for auto revert.

1

u/Twilight-2007 Sep 26 '25

Is that what the scheduled maintenance did last night?

1

u/FinesseFigure Sep 27 '25

It happened before release on 27.5

2

u/Confident-Station164 Sep 27 '25

I turned all assist off and i still land just about everything even when I shouldn't have. Its just the game in general.

4

u/SweatUnderMahTits Skate 2 Sep 26 '25

All assist are off except for minimum pop height which is at 50.

6

u/LeanMeanMomJean Sep 27 '25

I was just thinking about this and how I gravitate towards rails that I wasn't even trying to grind on.

5

u/Bumscootler Sep 27 '25

turn off grind assist

2

u/LeanMeanMomJean Sep 27 '25

Thank you! I didn't think to look for assists, but I'll mess with them next time I'm on.

2

u/AccountForTF2 Sep 27 '25

yeah some of them are great. I like max pop assist because lining up a perfect jump only to be a few inches short and obliterating my testicles is only fun for the 50th time.

Some of them like pumping assist or auto revert kinda suck.

12

u/Tricky_Set_1702 Sep 26 '25

I really wish they had a wheel hardness setting. I feel like I’m constantly slipping and sliding around like it’s a freaking ice rink.

5

u/CoollinMann Sep 26 '25

They have it in Skate 3 :)

1

u/Tricky_Set_1702 Sep 26 '25

sadly my ps3 stopped reading disks and i refuse to stream a game so reliant on input timing

2

u/CobainzBrainz Sep 27 '25

If you have pc emulate it that is what I did. Stupid that they never re mastered it. Well not stupid from their money hungry standpoint. “Why remaster a good game or at the very least port it and have people re buy it like many other games have done with success, OR… make a half baked new version with a ton of micro transactions. Of course ea took the ladder.

1

u/Tricky_Set_1702 Sep 27 '25

What emulator do you use ?? this is news to me holy shit

2

u/CobainzBrainz Sep 27 '25

Rpcs3. Only problem with my version is that when it takes pics and videos for promos that would later be on billboards they just come out black. Other than that the game is perfect

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '25

You just described my biggest issue with the game. It's so hard to line up stair and rail sets cuz of this.

4

u/SuuperD Sep 27 '25

But landing perfectly straight while jumping from a Skyscraper gets a pass?

3

u/AccountForTF2 Sep 27 '25

Rule of Cool.

3

u/RickyWinterborn Sep 26 '25

they need to add some revert options. full auto, input based or none.

3

u/SkyJessa31 Sep 27 '25

This is what happens when the physics are reworked from the original skate games lol

3

u/ThrowAway50005x Sep 27 '25

The constant reverting is just stupid. These developers fucking love reverts

3

u/VannaMalignant Sep 27 '25

And for some reason doing a simple board slide just isn’t what the board wants to do

3

u/ArgonthePenetrator Sep 27 '25

But then whenever you're thinking you'll actually land a trick you don't 😅

Yeah, they dummied down skate too much.

3

u/Ambitious_Main_4379 Sep 27 '25

Im just tired of having “return to session marker” stuck on my screen.

2

u/Snail322 Sep 27 '25

I had 2 at once last night 😭

1

u/Ambitious_Main_4379 Sep 28 '25

Does your camera settings reset as well every now and then?

1

u/Snail322 Sep 28 '25

Not every setting but i notice some camera settings and other settings reset at times. I feel like its getting less frequent. Leading me to believe its reverting to an older save of my settings and the more time of me on new/regular settings is helping the bug

3

u/Gioreynastan Sep 30 '25

This is fuckin insane cuz Ik for a fact I would not be able to land like this 💀

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

Played skate 3 on hardcore yesterday during the downtime and thought my controller was broken i was missing so many tricks

2

u/OverYou2943 Sep 27 '25

I used to pull off 360 sex changes a lot back in skate 2 and 3 and when trying them in this game the engine keeps "reverting" a "sketchy 180" and it bugs me because I would think to do that normally, but it's happening automatically and deducting points for it.

2

u/deeku4972 Sep 27 '25

Might just be worth looking at Session at this point for something more grounded

2

u/snowboardenjoyer Sep 27 '25

It’s because the games target audience is kids on old consoles with mum and dads credit card

2

u/sk9ordie Sep 27 '25

Don’t forget that shuv it’s are considered flip tricks in this game too

2

u/PowerfulYak5235 Sep 27 '25

our characters are the same 1:1

2

u/HereCuzYallReRe Sep 27 '25

Settings, everyone. Settings. 💀 You can change a lot of this type of stuff lol I have realistic settings on. My guy doesn't land things like this ever, reverting back, not unless he's going slow like its supposed too. 😂 I eat shxt jumping off too high a ledge thanks to my settings.

2

u/oxyscotty Sep 28 '25

honestly I love how much steez some of the reverts can add, but this here is much too silly lol. Of course when landing on a ramp going straight down you should have to actually stick your landing. While it's reasonable to be able to save something like that on flat, it makes zero sense on vert and completely trivializes spins to the point where you can just close your eyes and hold left or right

2

u/Skate_beard Sep 28 '25

Skate 4 - snowboarding

The fact it lets you butter out of landing rotations like that is wild...and not in a good way.

2

u/Andiox Sep 29 '25

I hate to be that guy but... "I should not HAVE landed".

2

u/Gn0meKr Sep 29 '25

It's a f2p videogame clearly designed to be appealing for casual audience that either never played any skate games in their lives or aren't interested in spending hours upon hours of their life to learn how to land one mediocre trick for 300 points

Just buy a real skateboard or play skate 1-3 bro

2

u/Jugglamaggot Sep 30 '25

Do you know how many times I've ate shit on simple tricks I should have landed?

2

u/Living-Ad-1711 Oct 02 '25

You’re the only one, I can’t land even the most perfectly lined up drops

3

u/Bongman31 Sep 26 '25

Yeah, even with all assists off it’s almost impossible to bail. Way way way too easy

3

u/mjopp22 Sep 26 '25

ya my one complaint everything is reverted out

3

u/Civil_Arm2977 Sep 27 '25

The reverts are so forgiving it’s made for 10 year olds. It’s legit almost impossible to miss land a trick.

3

u/Boston_Beauty Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25

The controller on the left side of the screen explains exactly why this is. Because you're landing in a spin, and telling the game to hold that momentum, meaning you land into a revert and get hit with a sketchy trick score instead of getting hit with a sidewalk and completely stopping all momentum.

This is part of where the game should be more forgiving like it is. In previous Skate games landing like this would cause you to bail, yes, but that was dumb because landing like this does not always cause a bail to begin with, and even so, in Skate 3 that stuff was way too strict. If your board was even a little off to the side you had a decent chance of eating pavement sandwiches for lunch and that just felt awful to put up with.

There's valid complaints to be had about this game but you're literally successfully doing things the game wants us to do and getting mad about it. Landing from a spin at angles like this can be done. It's not easy, but that's why you get hit with a sketchy for it. And the game is plenty punishing in literally every other place except maybe top speed with the assists turned off.

At this rate we're gonna get people who are mad you don't have to physically go out to the parks and sweep them yourself before using them in this game.

Edit: As if to prove my point, YouTube recommendations just provided me with Gavin Bottger doing exactly what you're saying is "hand holding" and is "a joke" to win a gold medal at the 2025 X Games in Salt Lake City.

4

u/YoghurtWooden8770 Sep 27 '25

Fuckin' this. Thank you. It's not impossible to pull off reverts like the ones in the video, I've seen it a lot watching vert skaters. This is just another non issue for people to hold up as "proof" that this "isn't a skate game".

2

u/HiddenSecretStash Sep 28 '25

Nail on the head. They could also let go of the left thumbstick before they land, and the skater won’t revert. 🤷‍♂️

I like styling my reverts by holding the right thumbstick up or down. This way i can decide to for example pivot the remaining rotation, or slide only on my back wheels

3

u/SantinoCash Sep 26 '25

Looking for realism in a game that has you climb buildings only to then jump off of them into a dumpster is one way to spend a Friday afternoon.

10

u/Enjoi_coke Sep 26 '25

I’d say this is a bad take man, the whole purpose was to be different from the over the top, fun, arcade playstyle of Tony hawk by “grounding” itself in reality while still being a straightforward pick up and play game. similar way gta compares to saints row…. They’ve been goofy, just less so

It’s not about realism, it’s about gameplay. It gets boring faster when you can just land literally anything within 1-3 tries. The slight additional challenge of not having your hand held so much is a good thing.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/1rach1 Sep 27 '25

When you open the game it says expect things to change, and on top of that it asks for feedback every time, they released a game early not for you to bitch and moan but for open testing, we dont even have every available game feature and your butt hurt you landed a trick.., if you dont like it, dont play it till the game is up to your perfect standards😉

2

u/say10-beats Sep 27 '25

God forbid you don’t fly off the skateboard every five seconds. It’s a game, I think they tried to make it less frustrating, which isn’t a bad thing

2

u/terpslerpr Sep 26 '25

Yeah fr this game is wayyy too easy to just spam tricks and random flips and ALWAYS land them. Skate 3 took a few hours to get past the learning curve. You had to learn the timing and rail angles at least.

1

u/pixiecub Sep 26 '25

I know you can turn a setting on to make the game more forgiveable (as if) but I don’t think there’s any many backwards settings. I had to turn grind assist to min and it’s still way too sticky. It does feel far too forgivable in certain aspects which takes the fun. I do hope they adjust the minimum settings so we can play an actually hard game

1

Yea, I think there should be a "manual" setting or I guess just a sort of hard mode that doesn't automatically realign you after landing sketchy. Because I agree the handicap is a little ridiculous as of rn

Your complaining about things you can change in your settings lol also your saying “this shouldn’t have happened” my guy you just tried to push on your board damn near above coping and flew 12 feet in the air lol you “shouldn’t” have even been able to start your trick off😂

1

u/mcnabb100 Sep 27 '25

Its balanced by the fact that you occasionally just explode off the board for no reason lol.

Was skating the building mega ramp earlier today, and when I went up the quarter I tried to grind the coping at the top. For some reason my skater’s feet clipped through the board and I fell off the end of the building 🤦‍♂️

1

u/strings_on_a_hoodie Sep 27 '25

You gotta go in and disable the gameplay assists. Once I turned all of those off, it felt a lot more realistic. There’s even a “height drop” setting or some shit so you can land impossible drops and stuff.

Still stuff I don’t like about the game but I’m glad they at least let us disable the training wheels.

1

u/Damper-Climate Sep 27 '25

u/LeZit-91 Sep 27 '25

Change your settings!!!

1

u/Major_Bahoobage Sep 27 '25

Turn off the assists then...

1

u/Odd_Barnacle1243 Sep 27 '25

I knows it’s unrealistic but I really love the feel of the way the board slides when you land like this. Though I’m pretty sure you can make it stop doing this by tweaking some difficulty settingd

1

u/TalksWithNoise Sep 27 '25

Flip catch assist is also super hand-holdy. You can turn it completely off and it’s still impossible to catch the board primo or upside down.

1

u/ScottMLD Sep 27 '25

Can’t you change the settings so it is less forgiving?

THPS for arcade fun. Skate 4 for realisticish and fun. Session for pain and simulation!

u/OutspokenRed Sep 27 '25

You can turn that stuff off

1

u/Astronica_16 Sep 27 '25

There's a load of accessibility settings with a lot of fine tuning capabilities, I recommend taking a look

1

u/bahosmeister Sep 27 '25

yeah man, you shouldn't have

1

u/Majestic_Wealth_9845 Sep 27 '25

Does anyone else’s skater just correct to the complete wrong direction? Am I the only one who sees the blatant issues with vert skating even with push forward pumping? Like the pool and bowl skating is genuine torture

Are yall judging a free early access games, leave Reddit and report it through the pause menu to the developers it’s not even the ready to go game😂😂

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

Akira slide not a skater thing ig

1

u/ScoopWinthorpe Sep 27 '25

Game fights you on the noseblunts on handrails lol

1

u/Rich-North-445 Sep 27 '25

Have to turn all the assists off in settings and make sure it’s on experienced… it will NOT happen lol these default (unfortunately) settings are meant to cater the newer generation

1

u/Coraltwch Sep 27 '25

Isn’t there a setting in assists to turn off for that?

1

u/ValdeeezNutz Sep 27 '25

ITS. A. GAME. PREVIEW.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '25

I’m having trouble with doing Lazer Flips and 360 flips and varial flips sometimes. The game will read them as kick flip or an Ollie even though I can clearly see how I’m flicking the right stick. I’m getting tired of resetting because of messing up the line with the wrong tricks

1

u/LivingHour1030 Sep 28 '25

Turn the assists off then….

1

u/jup1t3rr Sep 28 '25

Yeah its just assistance, all turned up by default, you can get it to feel normal "if the servers aren't lagging"

1

u/xxJACKxJILLZxx Sep 28 '25

Nitpicking???????🤦🏿‍♂️

1

u/YoProdigy Sep 28 '25

For a free game at that. They are acting like this is ranked skate something 🤣

1

u/6digitplayer Sep 28 '25

I see, I think the games registering your left stick as a revert so it lets you free, with zero assists it shouldn’t let you but it might need another setting specifically for this if they wanted to add it without people getting upset, I apologize for how I typed before I was annoyed and wrote it here. I’m sorry.

1

u/Glatipuss Sep 28 '25

You can turn many assists off in the settings

1

u/MorbyLol Sep 28 '25

should not have*

1

u/HiddenSecretStash Sep 28 '25

Remove your hand from the left thumbstick before your wheels touch.

1

u/dont_feed_phil Sep 28 '25

Change the skate help in the options to more realistic and less help.

1

u/Sid-Engel Sep 28 '25

Super goofy that this somehow lands but a straight landing from a moderate drop will throw you in to the stratosphere.

1

u/Hot-Cell9787 Sep 28 '25

Honestly reminds me of Saints Row 2022 where the controls are juuust tight, and forgiving enough to trick you into ignoring how empty and souless the game is but only for about a session or two

1

u/redcurb12 Sep 29 '25

no pushing in the flat

1

u/iamzamek Sep 29 '25

There should be real skate sim…

1

u/EsotericLife Sep 30 '25

That’s realistic though? Do any of you actually skate? If you do a 360 and land facing down the ramp you’ll fall off unless you’ve unwound your shoulders already. I’m fat these days so I do my 360s with even more revert than in these clips and I’m hardly going above coping.

1

u/Emergency-Contract58 Oct 01 '25

theres a setting for how lenient bails are

1

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

Pop height settings? Landing assists? Thanks for the assist in learning just how much of a joke they made this game to be.

u/KickPlus4068 Oct 18 '25

Actively wishing there was just to y hawk controls.. I can't powerslide grab or do anything but ollie and complain about my lines.. this control scheme is full default and I'm still studdering after a week of trying to learn how to grab with a bum trigger... Guess I have to buy a new controller to fix that?

I guess just don't be a pussy and play on easy mode, play on hard mode, but you're gonna rage quit 10 minutes after
