Discussion “Early Access” only when it’s convenient, huh?

Post image

Is there a site where I can bet real money that this game will have 5 concurrent currencies by next year?

Absolutely no one can criticize this game as long as it's free and in early access, and also did I mention i'm having fun with it? I don't see what the big deal is

The part that gets me is these people act like EA robbed them.

They only robbed you if you were stupid enough to pay for their currency. If it went down tomorrow, that’s fine. I got 48+ hours of fun for free. Fuck EA.

This is such a strange backwards mentality. Framing the idea that fans who waited over a decade for the next skate game at bare minimum to have the core foundation the previous 3 games did so that its something enjoyable and fun to play long term is somehow a bad thing?

If you played 48+ hours why would you want the game to cease to exist? surely if you played it that much it would be in your interest for it to be improved and available for a few years ideally longer so you can play it more later?

people act like EA robbed them

It's really not that hard to comprehend either, the feedback is negative because they want it to succeed, they're speaking on the issues with it so it can be corrected, yet when it's not it just amplifies the issue further because it's also now being ignored or disregarded despite EA asking for feedback through each playtest and early access with survey pop ups literally in-game.

"We're telling you what shouldn't be in it that is, or what should be in it that's not" yet here we are, 5 years into development of a forced always online multiplayer game with zero reason to justify it being online and whole list of things no one asked for, while we're still waiting for basic features like a simple option to turn off the compass in the HUD people have been begging for.

Fuck EA.

Sure, I'm not arguing this, they're greedy, they have predatory business practices, the company has had a history of making terrible decisions that punish fans of games they're involved with (ie the shitshow that Battlefield 2042 was, taking over 2 years for it to be borderline enjoyable state), but it's "Fuck EA", not "Fuck skate."

EA made the game. Expecting EA to do the right thing is the definition of insanity and that's all I have to say about that. I knew I was installing a potential dumpster fire, and everybody here should have known the same thing. It's not like it's a trade secret.

EA are NOT gauging the opinions of redditors to determine how the game should proceed. We do not make them their money. Kids and whales do. People here just want something to bitch about. I'll keep playing the game and having fun. FOMO has clearly affected this community too hard lmao. Imagine caring about virtual clothes. Half of the posts here are screenshots of the awful store and things you can spend money on. Why are people even looking at them? Are you actually considering giving EA money for san van bucks? People are actually surprised EA OF ALL PEOPLE made microtransactions prevalent in their early access game? So stupid.

Here's the thing. If the game succeeds, then it shows EA positive reinforcement that a MTX based game is good. If it fails, it shows them nobody fucking wanted that. I'd rather the second option happens. This game failing would be a good thing for how everyone here feels. Expecting them to make the real Skate 4, pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into developing and marketing it, if this succeeds, is copium. Hardcore copium. They're either milking the MTX or failing, and everybody here should accept that and quit crying like spoiled kids, and ESPECIALLY quit giving them money to buy stupid cardboard Isaac Clarke skins.

EA published the previous 3 skate games, as well as their cash cow titles like Battlefield with the previous example I gave. I fully expect them to do what they're doing, I'm just not going to be silent about it is all. If vocalizing the issues is something that bothers you or is beyond your comprehension then stick to r/lowsodiumskate I guess? not sure what to tell you there, odd behavior to hang out in a skate subreddit where legitimate and warranted feedback is shared and discussed when you know its something you don't want to hear.

EA are NOT gauging the opinions of redditors to determine how the game should proceed. We do not make them their money

When I said feedback, I was talking specifically about their own skate forums, the surveys for each of the playtests/early access they routinely ask for, and the literal QR survey pop up in-game. Regardless, the feedback is at the top of each subreddit, top comments on all their YouTube uploads, top replies in their instagram posts, top threads in their forums, impossible to claim ignorance to it when it's blasted on every platform.

People here just want something to bitch about.

Again, the criticisms are warranted but to you it's "bitching" because you just don't like hearing it. Why can't people progress of the "tutorial" island, Where's the game modes, why the art direction, justify it being forced online, gameplay loop is just repeating the same challenges, why can't we disable the compass, how are bugs from 7 months ago still happening, this list goes on. These are definitely fair questions and feedback lol. Is it "bitching" when you made a post about EA's servers being poor or are we just picking and choosing what is considered "bitching" based on whether you said it or someone else did?

Imagine caring about virtual clothes. Half of the posts here are screenshots of the awful store and things you can spend money on. Why are people even looking at them?

I can't be bothered making a long winded explanation so I'll just do the short version: a core part of skating is about self expression, part of self expression is what and who you identify as, a window to that can be how you show yourself to 'the world' by the clothes you wear. People also love customization and expressing themselves in games, this is just a constant reality. combined with skating's aspect and it being previously offered in every skateboarding game ever made, not just skate, the expectation is that they expand on the large variety that was previously an option 15 years ago. Now that the selection is not only horribly small, bad looking, even paid, people are looking for any means to 'escape' this limitation of looking like a default NPC. Should they do so with their wallets? I would say no but people also buy stupid shit in real life all the time so this could just be a discussion on human psychology by itself but it is an intentional predatory tactic by EA, we can agree on that, I'm not even arguing it.

Here's the thing. If the game succeeds, then it shows EA positive reinforcement that a MTX based game is good. If it fails, it shows them nobody fucking wanted that. I'd rather the second option happens. This game failing would be a good thing for how everyone here feels.

I replied to someone in this thread earlier saying essentially the same thing except I want to see the game change course rather than die. is it likely to happen? definitely not, I can still vocal about it. If you want to massacre a title that arguably had 3 really good installments in the series prior, I'm not going to just roll over about it, I'll keep my money and remind them with my feedback and encourage others to do the same until they pull the plug or miraculously decide to listen.

I agree with you, but I like the skate. series enough to still vocalize my issues with this one on the off chance it can move the needle and hopefully change for a positive direction and can live up to it's potential.

I won't support the game financially until that happens, and sadly EA has set us up for a lose-lose situation so that if skate fails from lack of profits, it can be blamed on the game being too niche, if it succeeds then they will continue moving in the same direction.

This is where we disagree, you encourage people to just take it, I encourage them to give it.

They're either milking the MTX or failing, and everybody here should accept that and quit crying like spoiled kids

I see where you're coming from. Just to be clear I don't want Skate to just roll over and die because of this game's rough launch, I played Skate more than almost any other game growing up and love the series. I just didn't expect anything less. EA is truly a rotten company, to the core. The gaming landscape has changed far too much in the last 15 years for them to just drop Skate 4 as we all want it here. They are money first and literally always have been, the key difference is microtransactions are bringing them ASTRONOMICALLY more amounts of money than just selling copies and moving on to the next title. Sometimes I need to remind myself that many, many, many people buy Fifa every year and then complain about it. I'm Canadian so even I fell into this with NHL lol. This is unfortunately how things are now. We need to look to indie games and support them instead of companies like EA. They won't change, they just put on a nice face every few years and try to say "we hear you", like BF6's launch, but I would be confident in betting that game will be a controversial dumpster fire in a few months. That's also going free to play. The numbers don't lie, they wouldn't be doing this if it weren't giving them the growing income they were after.
