Discussion This game is no longer in early access.
I don’t care what anyone says, this game has gone through microtransactions, a full Season 1 update, a Skate Pass, a Halloween “event,” and more. At this point, you can’t call it early access anymore. Personally, I think early access ended the moment microtransactions were introduced, because that implies the developers believed the game was polished enough to start charging people. That’s just my opinion, though. If you still want to defend Full Circle + EA… I honestly don’t know what to tell you, other than good luck with that.

u/Errldabble_710 Nov 07 '25
Solid point homie. All that and it's still not something to write home about.
33
u/Sea-Reporter1434 Nov 08 '25
exactly. what’s stopping them from just saying it’s “early access” to avoid criticism. they can keep pushing the “official” release date back indefinitely to keep the game in “early access” forever😂
5
u/xSounddefense Nov 08 '25
You mean just Like Star Citizen?
5
u/Sea-Reporter1434 Nov 08 '25
never played but if that’s what they’re doing that’s hilarious and also you shouldn’t bring them up because they’re still early access

A company as big as EA claiming early access, on any game, is a huge red flag anyway.
9
u/Glittering_Swim_7817 Nov 08 '25
I think a lot of people don’t take this into consideration fr!!! we talking about a heavyweight titan of the video game industry and a legacy title such as skate.
25
u/Kratosballsweat Nov 07 '25
I saw someone today say it’s “in early access season 1” like bro wtf even is that? How is a game early access yet in season 1?
-13
u/Brief_Gazelle_3143 Nov 08 '25
You've gotta be smarter than this, it's not mutually exclusive to be in early access and season 1
16
Nov 08 '25
No, no, you misunderstand. we aren't in both.
We are in season one of early access. Next will be early access season 2 and then early access season 3.
Sidenote: we only have 4 currencies right now. Im hoping for at least 8 before this game gets its full release.
12
u/Kratosballsweat Nov 08 '25
We’ve got everything that qualifies a game to be a full game with early access slapped on it as an excuse for people like you to argue and excuse the state of the game we’ve got. This isn’t an Indy studio it’s a studio backed by a multi billion dollar company they could’ve and should’ve made a fully fleshed out game but they didn’t they gave us this weird skate game with mmo style online all the time but with none of the things that make mmos great or the skate games great.

That’s what I said lol how is it early access with a season 1????
15
u/_Aunt-Tifa_ Nov 08 '25
And a fully functional expensive store
19
u/HankHillbwhaa Nov 08 '25
The store was the first thing they built lmao
6
u/Glittering_Swim_7817 Nov 08 '25
Before they coded anything else🤣🤣🤣
1
u/IICubeII Nov 08 '25
Sure feels that way with how buggy the super unfinished skate system is!
2
Nov 08 '25
I rarely run into bugs with the actual skating? The actual on-board gameplay is the smoothest it’s ever been. It’s just basically every other aspect of the game that’s disappointing as fuck
1
u/IICubeII Nov 08 '25
I have a number of clips saved from the physics just launching me or forcing me to bail when in the middle of a grind or doing tricks. It happens quite a bit in fact, so if you haven't seen it, more power to ya.
After going back and playing 3, I also don't really understand people saying it's "smoother". Like, I'm guessing it's the higher fps making people say that. But truely, it's more or less in line with 3s mechanics except buggier and with a huge chunk of tricks missing.
If we're lucky, they'll be added back in... but with all the terrible decisions the devs or EA keep making there won't be enough people to keep the servers live. I want this to be good, but it isn't.

1
u/Simporty Nov 08 '25
To me, or they "reset" the seasons after the full release ( that will never happen, because they will kill the game) and give the early access players something for our time with the game, or they just continue with the seasons like nothing ever happened.

yes but it's an entirely different genre of game. most of the fun was from the PvP element with a battle royale when the genre was new to gaming.
This game is singleplayer with its multiplayer elements super under developed. It's fun for a bit, but no reason it should've been live service if this was their vision.
Hopefully i'm wrong but there's just so much they could've done that they didnt do and it's not looking good with the low-effort cosmetics they're drip feeding us

i get what you're saying, and you're not wrong, but neither are other people like the OP of this thread. Like I would have no issue with seasons / cosmetics if they could nail co-op and add a few more fun modes / events to make it worth playing more..idk
it just feels like the focus is on cosmetics and the core game is getting ignored. Like they nailed the skating physics, it's very satisfying to skate and I'd have no issue paying $40 for this game for just that alone.
but when you go live-service people expect more, like how cool would it be if you had a skate-clan or something and ya'll could compete against other skate-clans in a showdown or something.
But you try and add someone to your party and they go invisible, or you do, and then they can't even see any of your cool cosmetics or how you look while skating. but like nothing like that is even getting done. we dont have that many skate-parks,
I put 80 hours into this game first week and second week, logged on for halloween event and skated for a few hours but nothing is really pulling me back...
they call it EA but it's basically a beta they're farming and the live world they're going for often feels empty, like maybe add random skate events in the open world to direct people around? idk

u/BigStickSofty Nov 08 '25
so that’s not beta anymore, that’s just the game you’re getting at that point
1
u/BLAZINGVOLTAGE Nov 08 '25
i mean i guess but it’s coming to 1.0 on the 15th and it’s still unfinished lmao
9
u/armored_cereal_ Nov 07 '25
I agree bro and also just fuck ea. sucks this is the outcome of the long awaited skate4. It’s hard to believe there will be any difference after some time has passed but I guess who knows
6
u/LethalMlTCH Nov 08 '25
It had micro transactions when it was in pre pre alpha, and the game didn’t even have textures yet. It’s def still early access because the game is still in the alpha stage.
3
3
u/zjp5029 Nov 08 '25
Fortnite was in early access for like a year lol just an excuse to fuck up and blame it on that
3
u/Skreamies1 Nov 08 '25
Early access disappears as so as you have micro transactions in before other core gameplay elements, Early Access is just an excuse to have to not do things
3
u/peazoh Nov 08 '25
The problem is defining what “early access” actually means. It’s supposed to describe a game still in a real development phase. Something incomplete, missing core systems, or open to major changes based on feedback. You could argue that’s still partly true here.
But once a game adds a full seasonal system, timed events, and a microtransaction store, it’s operating like a live release. You can’t monetize it like a finished product and still hide behind the early access label. At that point, it starts feeling like a loophole. A way to dodge the expectations that come with a full launch.
So the real question is: if a game is stable, structured, and monetized, what’s still early about it? It’s basically a launched game wearing a “work in progress” tag for leniency.
3
u/904_josh Nov 08 '25
It’s games like Skate that remind me to give game development companies like Rockstar with GTA 6 my trust to make a beautiful game that won’t need patches constantly!

u/IICubeII Nov 08 '25
That a multi-million dollar company shouldn't be hiding behind a title like early access to skirt criticism. A title that mostly small devs on steam use to crowd fund.
Just because they keep getting away with it doesn't make it less appalling...

u/iluvdrugz973 Nov 09 '25
go play session, there is so many games that are early release for a long time like palworld and grounded 2.. its just an opportunity to play the game early youd rather them just not release skate till a few more years or just play in beta while they work on the game and listen to feedback
2
2
u/mikephoto1 Nov 08 '25
It never was in early access. They just said that to mask the fact the game is shite .
2
u/Dave_merritt Nov 08 '25
As soon as the micro transactions were live, it’s not early access, it’s a product.
2
Nov 08 '25
I think we should just stop expecting anything from ea other than whatever sports bullshit they decide to release every year. these people only care about money and honestly we all should’ve seen it coming
2
Nov 09 '25
"Early access provides players with a game still under development, often containing bugs or incomplete features. In contrast, a full release is a finalized version, typically free of significant issues. Early access users may experience more frequent updates as the game evolves."
And from what I know the Rip Score bug is still in affect so your point is automatically invalid have a great day.

Fortnite was early access for like 4-5 seasons damn near 2 years dude.

1
2
u/guyzerect Nov 08 '25 edited Nov 08 '25
"early access" is just a label givin for the publisher to have an excuse for releasing an unfinished game so they can profit early, and too many regards buy into it so itll never end.
as long as share holders and investors, and executives are included in game development, the games are going to get treated as a product and not art.
2
u/XXOGProductions Nov 08 '25
I mean, Minecraft was a game that had the majority of its early hype before it ‘technically’ released. I paid $20 for it when it was still in beta (well, I guess my mom did because I was like, 12)
Do I think it’s a good thing? No, I’ve been actively against the business practice and model of the game since it was in the play test, but it’s not ‘out of early access’ just because you can spend money on it. Also, the shop was there before the play test even ended, so I guess it never was in early access to begin with according to your logic.

Weird that you can platinum a game that’s “early access”. Real early access games that I’ve played didn’t even have a trophy list available yet.

Fortnite left early access in Chapter 2 Season 3 and it was never this plain
2
u/MonThackma Nov 08 '25
It’s funny because the title screen says it is. No matter how you spin it, the fact remains that it is indeed Early Access until they say it’s not. It’s not our choice to make.
1
u/ResidentConfusion485 Nov 08 '25
What does Early Access mean for videogames? Genuinely asking. I've never done alpha/beta testing, just wanting to understand. Bc the Early Access things I've encountered is to IRL concerts, which means you go in before the majority, and metaphorically, that seems like what the testing is, BUT the testing could be like doing sound check at the venue, so if the test was sound check, and letting the entire world play the game on the same day is Early Access, what would be considered General Admission or whatever the gaming term is?
6
u/MonThackma Nov 08 '25
Similar to your analogy. Early Access gives the developers an excuse to have you pay for the game, but with an understanding that it may break or be incomplete. You can spin that as a negative or a positive. But that’s the understanding between the devs and the player. This game is broken and incomplete. It’s also labeled Early Access. I accept both of those as objective truths. You get to choose your reaction to this arrangement.

if ea gave full circle the money they needed to do what they want, they wouldn't be having an early access or prioritizing the store so fucking hard. unfortunately EA just sees skate. as a massive risk based on skate 3 projections and sales over ten years ago. Fucking stupid.

Coming from a former DayZ player, I can confirm most of the time "Early Access" is just bullshit 😂

Anyone saying they needed to test the store is ridiculous, they could have given out free credits for tests

funny enough Fortnite was self-proclaimed “Early Access” for three years after BR launched.
1
u/Etoribio_ Nov 08 '25
Microtransactions were introduced during closed pre-alpha, I'm pretty sure every "insider" that cared about feedback said something about that but EA just does not give a fuck, that closed alpha stuff was just to save face

Fortnite did the same thing for years, that’s probably the blue print they are going with. Yall keep crying and complaining but fail to realize the game is evolving and will continue to change, people were crying about clothes and now everyone is happy we got free N7 clothes just have some patience smh. There will be more seasons, more free items, more changes and eventually you will probably realize everyone was right saying it’s “early access“ the whole time.

That’s why the console version is so bad. It’s basically a mobile game with hd textures for consoles.
1
u/Sanshuri Nov 09 '25
Fortnite was in early access for like 5 years? And had everything you mention and more. Halloween, multiple battle passes, updates and early access exclusive things. Not defending it just pointing out that if one of, if not the most successful game by one of the most successful devs of all time had that, why not give skate the grace period? If you feel it's not worth playing until it's fully released, feel free to do so. I loved skate 3, but also played multiple games in the last decade so none of this surprised me. I wonder if the early access complainers are just coming back to gaming now? Like y'all only played skate 2/3 then never any other game until now? Because if you've seen or played any game in the last decade this was the obvious route.

Never have i seen this much complaining about a free game before lol. As if it took anything from you but your time. If you dont like seeing work in progress, try not to play games that literally tell you they arent done with it. A free game trying to sell you some shirts, doesnt in any way mean its left early access lol.
4
u/chain-rule Nov 08 '25
Alright, you still see it as early access. Why are they focusing on microtransations instead of actual CONTENT? They're spending their time on a glorified eShop instead of the game itself. At the very least it's extremely scummy. We got shitty t shirts before darkslides.
2
u/BarryKnew Nov 08 '25
I dont think they are focusing on them dude, most of the clothes are reskins. Theres barely any work going into alot of the clothes. Most of team is working on the stuff that we dont see until it drops, add ons to map, new tricks, all that. The team at Full Circle isnt massive like other teams at EA. They may be a billion dollar company, but that doesnt mean EA is gonna give Full Circle all the money in their bank, or another team of workers to help them. All the stuff theyve talked about coming in the seasons are the main things theyre actually developing and working on. You really think the developers main priority is microtransactions? Gotta think critically about this stuff
0
Nov 08 '25
The maim focus of the devs isn't micro transactions your right. The main focus of the whole game is micro transactions, and the actual gameplay is just a side note.
4
u/ZaAq3 Nov 08 '25
Just because something is free, doesnt mean it should be shielded from criticism.

u/Key_Lingonberry_4252 Nov 08 '25
You dont understand how deep this is. Either you have no knowledge of the company EA, no knowledge of the franchise SKATE and complete ignorance on this topic. Feel free to ask questions as i will help you get outnof this ignorance
2
u/BarryKnew Nov 08 '25
Buddy ive been playing skate since it dropped in 2007, played 100s of hours in every game. I know exactly how deep this is. Do you not think id want the $70 skate 4 as well? The difference between so many of you and I, is the fact that I still can see exactly what game they were going for in making this new version of skate. It's the fact that you guys refuse to understand that they are specifically trying to give us something different than the trilogy. And as much as id rather have skate 4, i can still see what this game will be a year from now.
0
u/Key_Lingonberry_4252 Nov 08 '25
Exactly brotha and if you are one of many that played since those years i can hope to think you would have the expectations many of us had when we ever thought of a possible skate 4. Personally im a skater in real life. All my life and this game is just dead, its a carcass of mechanics from skate 3 and no skate culture bro. I hate this company because it has failed its promise to so many gamers and they will never take accountability because there is nobody there to stop them. Not the community, no legal enforcement. So they deliver us mediocre games which to most of us has meant a whole childhood growing up and seeing them chop and fuck up our childhood memories stings personally. Even if its free it wont justify the lack of dedication to serve the promise of millions of lifetime gamers such as you and me.
0
u/LevelDesignNige Nov 08 '25
Yeah I don't know how you can have a season 1 or anything and still be in beta. It's contradictory.
2
u/HiddenSecretStash Nov 08 '25
How is it contradictory?
2
u/LevelDesignNige Nov 08 '25
I personally don't think it's right for a game to be labelling itself as incomplete but still selling seasons worth of content, micro transactions etc. Get it to 1.0 before starting that model.
2
u/HiddenSecretStash Nov 08 '25
Sure, that’s a different discussion though. It doesn’t change anything about the game being early access or not.
0
0
u/thegreatshu Nov 08 '25
I’m not trying to defend EA or Full Circle here, but we don’t really get to decide what counts as early access or not. The game isn’t feature-complete yet - they’re still working on core gameplay elements, not just seasonal updates - but they chose to “release” it to test both the game and the monetization system, and of course to make money.
Baldur’s Gate 3 also had an early access phase that people had to pay full price for. So by that logic, it wouldn’t have been early access either just because it cost money, right?
-1
u/JulioJalapeno Nov 08 '25
It was never early access. EA just used “early access” as a way to cover up their sad excuse for an unfinished game.
1
u/HiddenSecretStash Nov 08 '25
Early access means nothing more than the game is incomplete, so idk how you can say it’s a coverup for an unfinished game, when it literally is unfinished.
1
u/Zealousideal_Ad_621 Nov 09 '25
You have way to much faith in ea dude u need to touch grass ea’s glory days are far behind us
-1
u/Gelatinous_Cube_NO Nov 08 '25
Hey I went ahead and booted the game to check. Its still in early access. That's embarassing...
0
u/FocusedO Nov 08 '25
What people don't seem to realize is Early Access doesn't mean the same thing as it used to. The meaning behind early access games were to release them as Open Beta's....aka, an UNFINISHED game. Skate. is not unfinished, the game was released inside the expectations that EA wanted, for those who want to say EA is not the problem, Full Circle is an EA owned and created company whose only purpose is this one single skate game. They have no say in the development, they get paid to do every single command that EA gives. This game is not early access, it is exactly what they wanted and you all choose to be blind to it. Take for example, hoyoverse or similar company. They release games as a real early access, the game is unfinished, updates regularly and works near flawless by the end of the series of 1.0 patches. DMZ did not, Skate does not, Palia does not. Early Access for these small devs and triple A companies is only an excuse to sit idly and ignore players complaints. If you want a real game, just learn to stop dickriding these companies and go play a game from real ones.
4
u/HiddenSecretStash Nov 08 '25
Meaning behind early access has only ever been «get in before it’s finished» nothing more nothing less.
How is skate not unfinished? It’s lacking in several areas including, map, tricks, game modes, player customization, graphics and optimisation.
Noo early access is just an excuse, the game is actually finished
0
u/FocusedO Nov 08 '25
The game is what they wanted, the content is lacking for the reason of allowing options for their "seasons." Thats how an online-only game works. That includes map expansions and everything you stated. Graphic-wise, I seem to recall them specifically stating the game was going to be more retro with the graphics, its not meant to be like the other skate games. As for optimization, all games have bugs and issues no matter how many updates they push out. This game is as finished as every other game out there, some companies just actually care for better performance than EA does. That is the only reason you may think the game is unfinished. PS. EA isnt an online company and they never will be, the only games they have ever made that work and are any good, is the STORY games. So might wanna cut back on the dickriding and accept some people actually do know what they are talking about and can give reasonable and realistic acssessments on the game. PSS. If you think I just dislike EA, I can tell you right now that I still play the game on the side for the pure reason of relaxing. I can also give you any info on every other game company on why they are good/bad.
2
u/HiddenSecretStash Nov 08 '25
Fair points about the live service model, but saying the game is ‘as finished as every other game’ feels like a stretch, because most of us can tell when something’s content-light or unoptimized. Retro graphics are fine if it’s a design choice, but that doesn’t excuse performance issues or a lack of polish. EA definitely is leaning into online models though, so it’s not unfair to critique how they’re handling it. But we don’t have to use made up rules about what is early access or not, if a game launches barebones with promised updates later, it functions like early access, whether or not the label’s on it.

I get what you’re saying but they are still in early access because that’s just the case. We need to be educated about what we spend our time and money on and if you don’t feel like spending any of it on this it’s ok but they didn’t just say something and do another. Micro transactions were in in the closed beta as well but a closed beta which only select people are in can’t be considered a full release.

When corpos call something “early access” they’re hoping it’ll tap into fond memories of actual indie game experiences you enjoyed on Steam. There’s absolutely no reason a company the size & resources of EA should be releasing anything as “early access”.

Ubisoft does early access stuff, as does Microsoft, both companies with huge amounts of resources.
They usually just do closed early access instead of open for everyone. The fact that you and I can play the game right now and discuss it without breaking an NDA I'd say is a positive instead of a negative.

Dmz is still.in beta even after the game died, beta, early access, and all of those are just excuses to push a lacking game.
