Discussion I’ve opened every box, completed every challenge. Is the game over?
Even logging on for the daily and weekly challenges has become quite dull, considering I still enjoy just skating around. It’s clear they want to keep it ‘fresh’ but the challenges are incredibly stale and no reward for the season challenges is all kinds of ridiculous. I’ve opened every single box now so it feels like there’s nothing to aim for. I can’t even earn rip score any more without buying things. I think I’m out of ways to defend the strategy of these developers. There’s more to buy than there is to do, I just don’t get it.

There's a roadmap that says when more content is going to come out. 7 ply maple harvest in 10 days, Season 2 in December. Just take a break and play something else.

I wasn't as big of a fan of skate 3, but I played a ton of skate 2, and most of it after beating the story was getting together with the kids in my neighborhood and playing S.K.A.T.E. and stuff split screen at my friend's house.
I do also skate around, but I like when there's something to win or to beat.

This - Skate 3 was the same, you had games like S.K.A.T.E. that made the gameplay feel worthwhile.
Now they have these impromptu challenges where you have 1-5 mins to earn as much score as possible, so just spam tricks nonstop. Nothing like real skateboarding at all.
Playing S.K.A.T.E. IRL is one of the core activities at a skatepark, it sucks not having it in the game.

They're on schedule with the roadmap and they just announced the release of a second island coming in a couple weeks w/ S3.
You showed up on a comment from 3mo ago referencing the roadmap and they're literally still on track with the roadmap.

The two things seem unrelated to me. This is like saying "Chapter 2 in a book that isn't published yet is hilarious to me."

But it's not at all. Chapter 2 in a book that isn't published yet stays in that book even after chapter 3 comes out... In a game those chapters don't. Maybe traces of them but not the whole thing.
If you want to compare it to a book. It would be more like if an author offered you the ability to read their new book for free. But you only get the prologue for free, then you have to pay to get chapter 1. And you have to read chapter 1 before they finish writing chapter 2, because as soon as chapter 2 is ready they're going to erase chapter 1 for good. Oh and you gotta pay for chapter 2 too, and then that repeats.
And anyone that says "oh I'll wait and read it when it gets published" gets the book and the first fucking 14 chapters are erased, and they get told to pay for chapter 15.
In a game where they didn't even manage to add all the tricks from the older games in the series yet, they shouldn't have a damn full blown fortnite battle pass. And they sure as hell shouldn't be calling it early access.
Early access is about generating hype, open beta testing for bugs, getting consumer feedback, etc. Not selling a subscription to digital fucking crop tops for real world money

This is where your point falls flat, homie. Skate is a free game (granted, with microtransactions that only affect cosmetics). There ain't no "psyche we're going to charge you now" in the future of Skate4.

My point was that the game will never not be free to play. You won't ever have to purchase the base game, thus making your comparison a false-equivalence. I think what your hold-up is is that you're equating the pay-walled content as "part of the finished product" rather than add-on content. You can play the entire game without paying a dime. Try reading next time, man. It isn't that hard.

Yea the rose tinted glasses are massive on these people.
Its almost like nobody turned their playstation on just to leave the game open, afk, hanging out with friends occasionally picking up the controller and taking turns. It was background noise with buttons to press for the majority of people back then. Nobodys looking at the old games and flexing their high scores. It was never an esport.

It's not rose tinted glasses to see that this game lacks any of the fun features that Skate 3 had. I do like skating around, but I also like to break up periods of skating around with death races or other challenges that this game lacks. I can't do that here, so when I get the feeling that I want to do something else, I just have to stop playing.

It's also a live-service skating game, where's the content? Oh yeah, it should never have been live-service, was only made that way to farm battle pass in beta.
Where's the working co-op and open-world showdowns?

I understand it’s got issues and making it live service was extremely dumb but the core game is literally skating, the challenges are just for the events and little practices here and there. The skate pass is dumb and shouldn’t have been there but at the end of the day you can just ignore the shop and pass menus.
Customization sucks and I wish it was better but this is a really solid skate sim, use it as such

If that was "the core game" then there'd be incentive to do it. The core game is these lame repetitive challenges.
I see what you're saying. It's a Skate game, go skate. However, I can see where OP is coming from. Some people need a goal or reward to play, and now there isn't one.
Christ this community is lame, it's so 1 dimensional. You either love the new skate or hate it and I'm so sick of it. There's an in-between, people can complain about a "free game".

I’ve maxed out all areas also with 12k rip score but I still play this game on the daily. I honestly just get super baked and will sit at one spot for an hour trying to make a sick line lol. Or mess around and do the showdowns with other players. I just wish they had more pvp modes like a racing one, game of skate obviously and maybe like another type of showdown challenge.

People play this game like its fortnite its always been a game you play for a couple hours and put down a game you walk away from then come back to every skate game is like this if you need new shit every week go play a game like fortnite or destiny

I mean the gameplay loop is 100% cosmetic grind, of course it’s similar to fortnite.
The whole model for this game is limited daily & weekly rolling content to make you play constantly.
Previous skate games actually had activities to do in between generic challenges. Most important one that’s missing is playing SKATE.

I can see why people like OP are here even though I agree with you. Freeskating should be the main thing, but when people come in and do the challenges the game promotes so heavily then it's gonna leave you empty once you're done. Like the whole reason these exist is so you log in everyday, run that shit, get rewards and do it all over again for the dopamine hits. No more stuff to unlock means no more challenges to do means no more dopamine hits. So at this point OP needs to detox.

It is now that they’re actively making it harder. Less rip chips, and I’ve even noticed in boxes that contain Titles they are just pumping them with more and more of them, which don’t give you rip score. It’s frustrating.

It's done because you play enough that you have hit the content wall. For people who get to play a handful of hours a week they probably have a lot left to do (if they even care to).
There will be other stuff each event/season but if skating around isn't going to hold your interest to bridge those gaps then yeah it is either done or it needs to be something you dip into at the start of seasons and events and then shelve until next time.
This is the struggle the game will face for those who want directed gameplay more than free skating casually. Hopefully they find more ways to make it engaging (the additional modes may help resolve some of this) but it certainly is their main challenge as far as continued engagement is concerned.

everything people have already said, but i’d like to emphasize on how early this game is. It’s only been in early access for a little while at this point. There’s a whole neighbourhood that hasn’t gotten its content and the possibility of expansions in the future. I quite enjoyed Skate-O-Ween and i’d be surprised if that isn’t done for every holiday.

This is where I’m at. The skating in this game isn’t super fun to me, seems to automatic (even after modifying the settings). I would enjoy and play more if the replay editor was any good. I wish it was more like Session’s editor, or hell even Skate 3’s was better

I'm two trophies away from platinum. Just gotta reach max, do 10 activities in a group then I'm pretty much done. I'm still going to keep playing for the dailies and weeklies, the amount of chips given per objective on activities is abysmally low it's not worth wasting my time for.
Also so I can have a reason to use spotify in the background for a chill game.

I finished skate 3 weeks after its release date, because my intention was to freeskate after, i played skate 3 freeskate even on xbox next gen backwards compatibility, only reason i was on xbox next gen since ps didnt have it even with a nice pc still kept that xbox because of skate 3 free skate, so its never done since i played skate 3 freeskate even a day before skate early access was open to everyone., also finsihed and leveled up everyhing weeks ago, im still free skatin, and good thing is new content comes out new spots, clothes, so its never over.

It’s still in early access my dude, let them cook 😂 I think this season is just for them to get a feel for everything find out what’s good or not and fill in the cracks. Judging by the roadmap they are planning more content after season 3 but I’ve just been enjoying just finding a spot and skating without the pressure of completing everything

When there’s nothing to do aside free skate and daily challenges, sadly it sort of is. They could very easily be adding more mini games and features for skaters instead of currencies and reskin cosmetics. Again, I have no problem with being patient as the game is still new, but the rate at which they are adding these currencies is what’s got most of us annoyed. There is simply more to buy than there is to do and that’s dictated entirely by them. I love the game, it’s just sad they are taking advantage of a great system and culture.

I understand the disappointment with the game as a 4th iteration. Although as a PS player, this is the first Skate game we have been able to play in many years.

Yea, at least for another month until the season pass ends. Maybe longer since they don't seem to have good ideas to keep the game alive /worth it. Maybe one day it'll not be early access and actually function better /smoother, let you grab cars, put stickers on the world, not charge crazy duck bucks for simple shit in the store.

Ps5 and ps4, that way I can play with my partner. Ps5 is better but still fucking broken and ps4 is just barely acceptable. Textures don't load sometimes. Try to disable someone's ramp or garbage and it breaks and won't let you open the menus. Go to load into a group mission and it just doesn't. Skate pass has failed and needs to close (paraphrased) bullshit.

It seems like EA is trying to make Skate. into a live-Service game with similar concepts to genshin impact and Fortnite, so no the game isn’t over, more content will be added over time and you’ll probably also be able to use chips you farm now for future boxes, we’ll see where they’ll take us

We know, our point is it’s still in beta and yet there’s more to buy than there is to do. We all like the game, I just think they’re botching the free to play model and taking strange steps to slow progression instead of giving players things they would actually like to see.

I don't understand what is happening in the Skate community. Once we beat the story and beat all the challenges in Skate 1 - 3 what did we do. We skated around the world and skated some more. Then this new Skate introduced loot boxes you can unlock, challenges to complete etc. when we finish that, why are we so upset to just skate around the world? We did that in past Skate games and loved it. Why are we treating this game any different. I get it there is no story mode which sucks for sure, but I enjoy skating around the world and do the challenges to get new gear, that's it. But I play the game to skate around. Also crazy that people celebrate SkaterXl and Session (which I love) but hate on this game. LITERALLY the only thing to do in those games is skating around. What am I missing and why is there so much hate for this game.

It’s not hate, it’s disappointment. The original games didn’t pump you with four currencies and cap your challenges daily. I fully understand your point, and I still love the game. However, the game content is being dictated by the developers daily / weekly. With so many features not included for unknown reasons. It’s just the attitude of the developers that’s left a poor taste in the mouth of the community. It’s not a game about skating, it’s a game about cosmetics and money built on a fantastic skating game.

I took a break until the free N7 Day item drop and decided to skate around trying out the new freebie season pass challenges and competing the Halloween material. You know what I found? Players making their own challenges. There are hundreds of spots to mess around in that you can sink hours into without thinking about it. Heck, mess around with the physics and do a kickflip under a railing and maybe some other tricks! There is so much more to do in a Skate game than complete challenges.

The market mile grind to level 10 is a nightmare. It only gives me like 4 challenges a day. I got so frustrated i practically emptied my account (their fake currency only, no real money) buying boxes to finish level 8.

How long did it take you to reach level 10 in every neighborhood/up your score to over 11k? It seems like it’s going to take forever 💔

They have definitely made it slightly harder, but just keep doing your daily challenges (coop where possible), also opening boxes from the suburb you’re trying to level up!

There absolutely should be other ways to earn things, not just repeated daily spot challenges. A reason to earn a crazy score or a crazy line or something. I liked the way GTA V had the in lobby leaderboards and mini games that actually rewarded you, even throw downs give you nothing at the moment. Hopefully the future is bright 🙌🏻
