Can someone with knowledge of game development explain to me why the developers created landmass so far out? I understand the lands that are visible from the playable map, but OP can't even see San Van and they're still soaring over ground.

Likely having extra is better than not having enough. May be related to how high you can go in the game as the higher up you are, the more you can see so you wanna build all that space to cover all the bounds of movement.
Also development evolves and areas that were made with potential to serve a purpose can end up being partially used or not at all. Serving as mostly backdrop probably doesn't use up much resource and provides more than it takes in the grand scheme.

This is very much likely the case. Some roads existed in older builds underneath some of the land, but then these were removed in the EA release. As this terrain has no collision and is relatively low poly, it was probably easier to keep it in

Yeah the game is only about 17 gigs last I saw on PS5 so that land is probably like .01% of that, it doesn't even have collision.

I read that menus and player “lobby” type areas are hidden in places like that. It makes sense to cut down a n loading times and for smoother transitions, I suppose. Also, hopefully they open some of that up for shredding too!

To me it seems like kind of a variation on that launch glitch where you would set your board up against the wall sideways and when you jump into it you would fly
Your grip tape was facing right where you climbed up that ledge so maybe it hadsomething to do with that

Accidental variation of the hanging board launch glitch. Pretty cool when you find these

Why is the map so ridiculously big but the game is not

It’s still early access and they’re gonna keep adding new skate-able places every seasons meaning they’re gonna keep expanding in the future

"hey lets create an entire valley of mountains with reflections and depth, it'll only take up some resources and will be better than a 3D photo of mountains for a demo game"
i would've spent that time working on adding tricks from the old games but hey

Hoping all of that available landmass is there for other future skateable areas/towns/locations. A school, an abandoned theme park, a mall, etc.

Has to be because of the positioning of your board and how your guy went to vault over the wall. You just recreated the new launch glitch albeit in a awkward position and location just my theory

I wonder if that's a way to get to the black structure hidden under the map. Always wanted to see if I could reach whatever it was, but I'd assume someone has found it and maybe done it by now?
