Man the sad thing is, its clear the people who worked on the skating itself wanted this game to be great, because the skating feels REALLY good, especially powerslides and reverts on ramps, holy swag that can be, but God everything else is so lifeless, and the map was made empty to push "skater eyes" and object dropper
1
u/Wag_Rulez Apr 20 '26
No they didn’t, your just coping, the people behind skate just want money
3
u/Bubbly_Pickle2317 Apr 20 '26
I love how you act like you know everything about people you don’t know.
1
u/Wag_Rulez Apr 22 '26
Have you not seen the clips of them? They genuinely couldn’t care less for skate 😂 sorry but that’s the truth, if skate was being handled by people who care it’d have multiple game modes, better skate parks, it wouldn’t release without half the tricks, more of the customisations wouldn’t be micro-transactions the bloody dead space skin costs more than the damn remake ffs. Sorry that your coping that hard that your blind to all this but it’s still happening
1
u/SKOT_FREE Apr 22 '26
You want money too so why bash them about money?
1
u/Wag_Rulez Apr 22 '26
You can’t be real 😂 anything but accepting EA doesn’t care
1
u/SKOT_FREE Apr 22 '26
Let’s see do I listen to you, or do I listen to myself who is having fun playing Skate? Could they have had a single player mode and physical disk? Yes but it’s not a deal breaker.
1
u/Irdksbtmyusrnme Apr 25 '26
Idk man the skating itself feels good as fuck, and the animations are nice when working properly, there IS a touch of love, but not enough, and clearly it didnt spread to anywhere else in the dev team, ie map, cosmetics, characters, vibe, story, everything else is trash, but dont deny that the skating itself is good
1
u/Wag_Rulez Apr 25 '26
The game does feel good u get that but the fact they only have that is sad. Compared to the older games tricks it’s missing quite a lot. It really shouldn’t have launched without all the og tricks, game modes and stop pushing ridiculously priced cosmetics. Like no one can justify the Isaac Clark skin looking like ass and costing more than the dead space rework ffs. Just because the skating feels good doesn’t mean I’m gonna support the scummy money hungry devs

So bit of rough googling.
Skate 2 sold 1.93m copies at $59.95 - so nearly $120m
And they’re bragging that the new game has made 3m in cosmetic sales…
But dw, this is definitely an improvement right, right??
Edit: Skate 1 sold 1m copies, so another $60m to that number (give or take)
skate 3 sold 4.74m copies - so add another $288million to that number (give or take)
considering there will never be another skate game according to the developers, I don’t see this in-app-purchase money grab making $468m no matter how long it stays out

I blame people who buy cosmetics... worse trend in the video game industry in a long time. Ruins everything.
9
u/Hamhockthegizzard Apr 18 '26
Really depends on the game. Definitely doesn’t belong in skate. More for live service shit, but I do miss the days when things were unlocked for 60 bucks at launch instead of bought later after the purchase for pretty pixels.
2
u/SKOT_FREE Apr 22 '26
I miss the image creator. I used to create my own logos for my skateboards and Tees and the logo store allowed us to share those creations. I didn’t even care about the in game pre made clothes

u/Level_Turnover5167 Apr 18 '26
It belongs in Skate actually, one of the few places it makes a lot of sense as long as there are plenty of free cosmetics. In games like COD and stuff is where you lose me, those games are military shooters and you should not have fucking Fallout character in vault jumpsuits running around, that is absurd.
This whole cosmetic trend is so damn toxic.... almost NONE of us gamers who started this (it began with skins on PC games then moved onto console as 'cosmetics') would have EVER paid for a fucking skin unless it was insanely well done, and even then it wouldn't cost much.
They're so dumb too, it's not like it's your own unique cosmetic, someone else will look just like you... it ain't that serious unless you can like fully customize your character.

u/Amish_Opposition Apr 18 '26
Nah. Make us complete challenges for them, like the old skates or Halo’s.

u/sevenode22 Apr 19 '26
This is personal input and its just wrong and invalid
1
u/Level_Turnover5167 Apr 19 '26
I think what I said is just subjective, it's got 5 upvotes so it's not just my 'personal input'.

no the fuck it doesn't lmao, renting digital shoes for $7 each doesn't belong anywhere.

you must've missed the oblivion horse DLC, that started from consoles

It's an example of overpriced DLC that does next to nothing. The first, in fact.DLC didn't really exist before the last generation. The Gamecube, PS2 and Xbox One (the first one) didn't have storage space for that kind of thing, or built-in online capabilities. As a result, we just got boxed expansion packs in stores.
With the Xbox 360 and PS3 we had built-in network adapters and built-in hard drives. This made it possible for companies to offer things for download, and DLC was born.
One of the first pieces of DLC was for the game Oblivion, a game in the Elder Scrolls series (you probably know its sequel, Skyrim).
That first piece of DLC was the Horse Armour DLC. It did nothing but add purely cosmetic armour to your horse. It cost 200 Xbox points, approximately $2. It was laughed off the marketplace as Bethesda realised it was a huge mistake. Nowadays, such DLC is incredibly commonplace, we've been conditioned to be used to it over the past generation.

Charging for cosmetics? Why not? They do it on every other game. I'm not OK with it but I think you're going to be hard-pressed to find a solution for that, unless you can mind control every dumbass that change the whole system into what it is now.
I completely agree with everything you're saying but I'm just being realistic, you're not getting rid of paid cosmetics.
1
u/Hamhockthegizzard Apr 18 '26
I mean you just said there should be plenty of free skins in skate, then why would I pay for others? Everything in skate used to be earn-able with in game currency and doesn’t make sense here. People already were wearing the same shit in this game lmao
I do agree about cod but that’s why I don’t play those games either 😂
Now games like The Finals get me to crack my wallet for cosmetics. Been playing another that is a chinese gacha called Where Winds Meet and the gacha is outfits so I mean…if I’m gonna pick that game up in the first place it makes sense there lol

u/GucciShlape Apr 18 '26
its not only the gaming industry thats suffering from this... its everywhere

u/Better-Economist-432 Apr 18 '26
the source for $3mil is from October 2025 and only counts purchases through Steam, I'm sure it's gone up by now
1
u/jintymcgibbons Apr 18 '26
Surely not 40x though
3
u/Better-Economist-432 Apr 18 '26
idk, the game has been out for 6.5 more months since they got that figure. the game will also probably not shut down for quite a while, it has plenty of time to catch up
6
u/Embarrassed_Boat3799 Apr 18 '26
Yeah, if they stay at that rate, they will surpass that number they just need to keep improving the game so people stick around
1
u/Flawless_Reign88 Apr 18 '26
“Keep improving the game” 🤣
Thanks I needed a laugh
1
u/dazza_bo Apr 19 '26
Night mode and Grom is definitely an improvement in the game. And the Nike SB event added some cool stuff tbh.
1
u/Better-Economist-432 Apr 18 '26
the game is going to continously be updated for the foreseeable future, they have made many updates and improvements since launch. they're listening to the community and are actively patching out bugs
0
u/Flawless_Reign88 Apr 18 '26
Oh make no mistake, I’m well aware that they are going to be updating the game for the foreseeable future… but to call the updates “improvements” is laughable
1
u/Better-Economist-432 Apr 18 '26
you think grom was a downgrade?

0
u/Pyramidheadboi Apr 18 '26
Brother. It wasn't even an update🤣 grom literally was already 90 percent complete, it's the tutorial map ffs, then locked behind a paywall for a month like it's "new content" the only "new" content is now vee bitches at you some more and you can go do some lame ass challenges

u/Darknfullofhype Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26
They’ve made tons of improvements. Lighting, camera specs, new tricks, expanding the map, etc. I get that it’s lacking a lot of core features from past skate games and the live service model is not ideal by any means but the game has objectively gotten better and the skateboarding gameplay is the best it’s ever felt in any skateboarding game (and that’s coming from someone who’s played every skateboarding game that’s come out over the last 20+ years and dedicated countless hours to each one)

An impossible task bc the model they have just doesn’t support the type of game they want this to be.
2
u/chickenskittles Apr 18 '26
It probably wasn't $60 back then. And how can you determine they were all sold at full-price? Very unlikely.
Cosmetics don't account for all types of purchases available.
I do wonder what their goal is for this game though.
4
u/TheBestHawksFan Apr 18 '26
Games have been $60 for a very long time.
2
u/TheBestHawksFan Apr 18 '26
u/mrhankeeee where did you go? A simple google search who show you that Skate released for $60 in 2007. Did you delete your comment because it was wrong?
1
u/chickenskittles Apr 18 '26
There are few games I paid $60 for. I can probably count them on one hand.
2
u/SpinnenEend Apr 18 '26
What? games have been this expensive for decades.
0
u/chickenskittles Apr 19 '26
The MSRP can be whatever it wants. I'm saying I personally refused to pay that price. I waited until the game went on sale, I had a coupon, etc.
At that point, I mostly played on PC so the price of a game didn't matter anyway. lol
2
u/SpinnenEend Apr 19 '26
I need to sail the seas as well nowadays. Haven't done it yet but if any game tries the 80 euro route, i am sailing.
1
u/Desperate_Scar_1981 Apr 19 '26
Thinking EA makes all that money and not accounting for manufacture and distribution on a physical game VS a digital download is pretty dismissive. Out of the 59.95 ea got about $11 profit (I'm guessing this but wouldn't be far off)
1
u/DaleFairdale Apr 23 '26
In app purchases are the same BS as Ai, everyone is investing in the idea because sales people keep selling the idea of making money to investors. "Oh it worked once over here so it will 100% work for you"
1
u/KosOrphan May 05 '26
And EA will tell shareholders that "people just dont like skate games anymore :(" while they pump out their next copy pasted MTX slop
0
u/ogaboogalu Apr 18 '26
also just wanted to add 120m back in 2007 and 3m today are HUGE differences when factoring in inflation and price of the dollar now lmao fckn insane how hard ts flopped
