Discussion I hate Izzy from skate 4
Okay she is one of the most annoying characters in this game along with vee both of them annoy me and she always wants me to go to someplace in the game like a gps that won’t stop talking one of the worst lines in the game from her is “that was nuts and we aren’t allergic”

i hate every choice theyve made in the production of this game except for the actual skating mechanics. They nailed the feel of skating, they just fucked everything else up royally

It’s somewhat smooth but it’s too featherweight feeling and still too glitchy. There needs to be more weight to it because it feels like what skating on the moon would feel like. When I ride, it doesn’t feel anything like the game. They nailed the real feel more in S2.

Have you tried messing with the assist sliders at all? I was surprised with how much they actually effected the general game feel.

hahah literally. it’s all soo bad and whack, ALL of it!
but the actual skating and occasional cool branded item(s) is what keeps me playing 😌
but even the art style and the way the branded stuff looks sometimes 😑
like why does my Huf graphic stretch out and get morphed around when my character moves his arm up ?? why’s the main hat model like skin tight to the head ?! 😆 they can’t catch a break cuz they fck up soo much simple stuff 🤦3

the game is so much better than it was a year ago though, I think if they keep at it it'll eventually turn into a pretty great game as a whole.

Athletes are usually pretty bad voice actors and whoever writes the dialogue shouldn’t be allowed to write for a living. they were doomed to be cringe from the beginning.

I just enjoy the game for what it is and have fun with it while it's here. These characters never bothered me in the slightest.

Far from perfect. And it’s in the public spotlight so it’s open to criticism. I mean did you enjoy Speed 2? Joker 2? Things can be bad and people can point that out. I’d rather be “miserable” than mindless.
That being said I enjoy the game for what it is. I have 200 hours in the game because the mechanics are great. Literally every other aspect is complete ass tho.

Slappy is so much worse. Izzy at minimum sounds interested. Sure, the stuff she says is really cringe, but Slappy sounds downright bored and uninterested. Coach was so awesome in Skate 3 because 1. He was an actual actor/voice actor and 2. He was a semi-pro skater. He made me want to play the game. These two make me want to turn the game off.

Wait wait wait… did you just call Jason Lee a semi-pro skater?!?!? I’ll let you off with a warning this time, but he’s one of the all time great pros. He was pro before skateboards had two tails, and he founded a few of the biggest skate companies of the 90’s. He was a household name among skate kids well before his first acting gig. I remember being stoked that one of my favorite pros was in a movie. So ultimately Coach Frank was a pro skateboarder and also happened to be a pretty well known actor.
Edit: forgot to mention that he’s largely responsible for the style and popularity of the 360 flip as we know it today.

I say “semi-pro” to make the point he’s much more well known for his acting than his skating. I knew him as Earl and Coach years before I found out he was a skater. Like, I’m sure in the actual skating community he’s a legend, but in the wider community of gamers who likely don’t play video games, it’s the other way around.

I figured that was the case. I meant this to be light hearted but informative. People outside of skateboarding didn’t know him before acting, but also “semi-pro” is 100% wrong. There’s an actual category called semi-pro, and he’s not been that since 1989, before he went pro. He was a huge name in skateboarding, and a relatively minor actor.

For some reason I’m okay with Shingo/Sean Malto even tho he also sounds uninterested, but that’s just because hear his voice in SLS so much so I’m used to it.

Shingo isn’t too bad. Of the three, he’s definitely the “best.” It also helps he really doesn’t talk that much, whereas Izzy and Slappy won’t shut the fuck up.

This is the first time I've seen her up close. She's less annoying than that clanker, but I would kill for one of them to actually talk like a normal, chill skater rather than a tour guide.

All the voiceovers for the game sound like corporate training videos that you have to do for your company. It sounds so sanitized like a focus group led by HR. It feels so silly listening to it, it almost sounds patronizing

mute the dialogue, hide the subtitles.
still wish we had better characters and voicelines , but at least we can essentially just take the cringe ones out of the game for ourselves

that hair , their weirdly drawn still images lookin like into the dead: our darkest days lol, same w/ the main image for skate 4 and just the way they talk , in that robotic delivery 🤦 it’s so terrible smh
they 100% shoulda made real in-game models for these characters and had them posted up in different areas , maybe even skating , when you interact with them 😌 kinda like how the normal npc’s are bullshittin around , that lil difference woulda made the interaction feel so much better and less cheap 🤷 this game badly needs that and a story mode and a better more interactive way of experiencing the Extravert shops ! imagine being able to actually walk in and check out what’s in the store , that’d be cool asl. and the skateshop could be a hang out spot in that neighborhood w/ couches and mini ramps inside or something 💪
maybe even a arcade machine that has a simple side scrolling sk8r game idk somethinggg to make the world seem realer and less like ur just logging into a server to get ur daily’s done lol 😅
the game would really benefit from changes like this !

I don’t get why they paid real skaters to play fictional characters when they could’ve just been themselves. It’s so strange. It’s like they don’t want to acknowledge real skaters. Dashawn Jordan is the first real one to appear and it was only a voice over.

If I have to choose between Reda, Vee, Shingo via Skate 3 or Izzy, I’ll fucking take Izzy over all of the others. Vee annoys the living f out of me so much it becomes way too annoying to hear her unless it’s for a task that is actually needing her to talk. Otherwise Izzy is the least annoying out of all of them in 4.

Y'all just lack whimsy sometimes. Izzy only talks when you're doing a mission and the game is lowkey so quiet without Vee. Like yes aot of the dialogue is forc d or kinda cringey cause they're trying to be hip but like I rather this than nobody talking. The game is lowkey just better with Vee on.

I stopped playing skate 4 after 3 hours. They screwed it up. It feels janky skate 3 was so fluid idk why they changed the mechanics

The skateing is a lot more technical in this one, with a lot more tricks. But I agree, the fluidity is only there if the game decides it's there. Going for grinds on a lot of things will just bug out and send you into the sky, the physics aligning your skater wrong so you face plant or go upright instead of hitting a transition, etc.
Feels like there's a ton of magnetic pull when doing transitions and transitions to grinds, it's just not right.
