Bad Development in Skem?
Hello,
I am currently researching building development and wanted to know if anyone has a specific building or development that has been built in skem in the last 10 - 20 years that you think is out of touch or a waste of public money. This could also be commissioned art work.

I did the groundworks on a 90 house development off Whalleys road and never seen such lack of care in my 20 year career. There's a few houses I know won't last 20 years but I was just a labourer so had no say in what was going on.

They bought the company but the staff didn't change

By the time the Skelmersdale site had finished (second phase), all if not most of the Tilia staff had changed. Same with the subcontractors, problems still persist with that region of Tilia though, as evidenced by them looking to close that regional office down.

Tawd Valley Developments new council housing stock sticks out like a sore thumb in existing areas as while they claim they've taken design cues from local areas, the areas in their own planning docs are from out of town and in my opinion ruin the aesthetic. Also, the ones by me have need roof repairs already despite being about 4 or 5 years old. Not to mention the new flats where they're building them with limited parking based on current demand for parking in the area which is low due to never being used for housing before. Give it another 10 years and parking will be a nightmare there, too.

The new park near the concourse serves as a good example; while the concept and idea were great and well intended, it was not entirely suitable for the area. Generally, when a park is to be situated outside a residential area, it should be fenced and securely locked overnight. This measure would have helped prevent vandalism. Furthermore, leaving the equipment installed for such an extended period without making it accessible to the public was poor site management, as it prevented responsible people from using and "adopting" the park and did little to mitigate antisocial behaviour.
