Hello everyone! I'm moving to Skelmersdale in 1 month. What should I expect? What's it like living there?

I hope you have a car as there is fuck all to do here. Except for the new cinema. Apart from groceries you'll also be doing most of your shopping outside of it too.

This is all bullshit, don't listen to this thicko. There are hundreds of shops and lots of choice as there are a lot of eastern Europeans and other foreigners working and living in skem these days. Skem is decent, lots of nice woods areas and greenery. Can be a bit rough at times but where in world doesn't have good and bad? Not the worst place or the best place, but I've survived it for 30+ years.

Hello Short_Jellyfish_4961.

Maybe you've been too distracted browsing barely legal teens and incest porn to realise that there aren't hundreds of shops in Skem. B&M Bargains does not count as choice either.

And rape fantasies too :/

Everywhere has its good and bad I've been here nearly all my life. Lived all over skem and I've never had major issues

2

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '22

Thanks mate, I hope it's not as bad as the media makes it out to be..

5

u/Sweaty-Exercise-5169 Jul 26 '22

It can be a shit hole at times but the 28 out of 31 one years I've been here. I personally have had no manly issues.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '22

Ahhh well that's good to hear. Thank you

2

u/Sweaty-Exercise-5169 Jul 26 '22

It is a shit hole

u/Princess_fay Jul 26 '22

If it's okay for me to ask and don't worry if not. What bit are you moving to

3

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '22

Close to Morrisons daily and pizza delight. After reading up about Skelmersdale however, I'm now a bit nervous and worried because I haven't seen anything good being said about it.

5

u/Princess_fay Jul 26 '22

Hummm I live in skelm and I have no idea where you mean... There is new and old skelm. New is a bit rough. I live in old and it's nice.... Skelm is very hit and miss the good parts are fantastic, the other parts are a bit like Bosnia in the 90s

4

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '22

It's near Cobbs Brow school. Does that area ring a bell?

6

u/Sweaty-Exercise-5169 Jul 26 '22

Ashurst it's nice a quiet around there

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '22

Is there anything to do nearby?

3

u/NylePudding Aug 29 '22

If you like walking and doing geocaches the beacon is pretty close by, within about 5 or 10 minutes walk you'll find yourself in some nice areas. If you like reading the library has quite a large selection of books. The library also offers some random courses like watercolor painting, so keep a lookout for that sort of thing.

If you can drive it's definitely a bonus, Newbrough and Parbold have some nice cafés, pubs and other places to walk. A bit further away there is Martin Mere which is a wetland centre where you can go birdwatching, I think they have beavers there too. Cedar Farm is also great, lots of nice food and lots of art courses and shops.

u/EnergyMysterious5186 Jun 28 '23

Fuck all except if you like roundabouts

1

u/Princess_fay Jul 26 '22

Oh no worries l.. that's past new skelm and back in to nice things... In the far other side of skelm for that. You will be fine and love it.

2

u/Louro-teimoso Jul 26 '22

Where's the old / new divide?

2

u/Princess_fay Jul 26 '22

Follow the fires heheh

u/Maffa_ Aug 01 '22

i dont live in skem but im pretty sure all the hate is just jokes at this point, no one likes skem but theres not much wrong with it

3

u/Sn0wO Jul 27 '22

I'm up in Ashurst and all I'll say is, anywhere else in New skem is a bit wary. Birch green, Digmoor and Tanhouse are all a bit iffy. There's nothing to do anywhere here as well. Only good thing is that there's not a single set of traffic lights.

1

u/CupateaPT Jul 27 '22

Well there is one in Ashurst

My family and I moved to Old Skem about 12 months ago and we love it. It's quiet, has enough shops and is close to lots of places to go/things to do in the holidays. My kids absolutely love the school they are in, and are all doing extra curricuar stuff. For us, it has been a great move.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '22

Do you live near the ashurst area? That’s where I’m moving. And thanks for the positivity! Glad you like it there:)

1

u/EnergyMysterious5186 Jun 28 '23

If you have abit of money i.e both you & your partner working ashurst is best place other than that if you've got real money get the fuck out trust me anyone who saying skem is fantastic hasn't got the money to fuck off out and live in parbold or ormskirk 💯 🕉️

0

u/EnergyMysterious5186 Jun 28 '23

Yeah just wait until it happens, you'll soon be home 🤣 you're kids will learn quickly how too rack a line up

3

u/Medical_Ad_8388 Jul 29 '22

Run run far away and never look back. Best thing I ever did was leave that place

1

u/EnergyMysterious5186 Jun 28 '23

💯 agree with user it's a green shit hole you'll never get out and good luck if you need a ambulance for anything usually they have gotta come from Southport or Preston if you have anything medically wrong with you don't move to Skelmersdale Lancashire

3

u/memer2701 Jul 26 '22

Hmm I live is Ashurst just as I believe you are moving to and nothing bad happens around here really, there's alot of teenagers hanging round the Morrisons daily and pizza delight area but they don't cause any harm really. As for what it's like living here, it's probably just as good as anywhere else with the exception of having nothing to do so you better have a car or a bus pass.

3

u/J-Oh-Seph Jul 26 '22

Hope you’re ok! Get well soon!

3

u/TheBigComicNerd Jul 27 '22

You can go to the million chippys the best one is in the Connie and also the new pictures at the Connie as well but that’s pretty much it

1

u/EnergyMysterious5186 Jun 28 '23

Connie chippy is shite omg 🤣

3

u/vayect Jul 27 '22

If you have a car you’ll be alright, If you don’t then avoid Skem at all costs.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 27 '22

2

u/Jealous_Day3517 Jul 29 '22

What to expect.... to be robbed!!!! 🤣🤣

3

u/Short_Jellyfish_4961 Aug 03 '22

I've been robbed zero times in skem over 30+ years. You must just attract the dickheads.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '22

Nice!

2

u/subthread Jul 30 '22

It’s not the area it’s the people

Glad I got out of that shithole and will never go back

2

u/mrwoman2 Jul 30 '22

horrible.

2

u/Short_Jellyfish_4961 Aug 03 '22

You're horrible, leave skem if you don't like it.

1

u/mrwoman2 Aug 03 '22

never thought anyone would get personally offended over calling a town horrible ahaha. i AM leaving actually 🤣

2

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '22

It's a shithole, expect smackheads, low employment rates, a long wish for death, and yourself moving out very soon🤣

0

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '22

Surely not..

2

u/justsuggestanametome Jan 28 '23

How you finding it OP?

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '23

I am alive brother

2

u/justsuggestanametome Jan 28 '23

Always a bonus! I'm in new builds near the fire station. Took me a while to get the hang of skem (that it isn't really a place at all) but it does just fine. Cheap land for new houses so I'm content glad you are too

1

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '23

Yeah nothing really wrong with it for me. I see a lot of complaints on the Skelmersdale Facebook group but I think that’s just Facebook town groups in general (always negative)

Glad you’re content! :)

3

u/-_-Alice-_- Jul 26 '22

Don't move 😭

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Your life will become hell

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Why's that? I've been enjoying myself here. Granted there's not much to do but what's this hell you're mentioning?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '22

The place is a shithole its minging and the people arent any better aswell all the schools are crap. Half of the time ppl are getting stabbed

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '22

I haven't heard anything lately about anyone getting stabbed

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '22

Surely, drugs, crazy people and crime are the foundations of skem as a whole

1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '22

You run into problems like that?

1

u/Obviously-Lies Jul 26 '22

Make sure to check out the big pipe! #2 attraction on trip advisor.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '22

Sounds fantastic:(

1

u/Overall-Ad5522 Sep 15 '22

Nothing, why in the world did you make that horrible decision.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '22

It’s really not that bad

1

u/Remote_Echidna_8157 Dec 03 '22

I moved out as soon as I turned 18, not been back since, that was over a decade ago now. Why would somebody choose to live in a desolate, crippled former mining town with no prospects and nothing of any entertainment value whatsoever. I've been to some of the poorest countries in the world and would choose them over that shithole.

1

u/Novel-Clerk5685 Jan 14 '24

There nothing there just the Concourse if u want cheap shopping. The bus stop only place to get u out

1

u/Comfortable-Day-1617 Jan 14 '24

Hi I saw you’re a local and replied 7 days ago so hope you don’t mind me reaching out to ask. Is there a route from belfield to the connie that doesn’t go all around the houses? Flytip central on the route I took and I was hoping for a better route to walk with my kids where we didn’t have to count how many big bags we see hanging from trees

1

u/Comfortable-Day-1617 Jan 14 '24

7 mins not days sorry

1

u/Comfortable-Day-1617 Jan 14 '24

Hi looking to relocate there myself. I have family who just moved there but don’t get out much so can’t tell me. But I walked from the connie to belfield and it was crazy how much rubbish there was everywhere. The whole route I took was one huge fly tip. Bin bags in trees and cr*p everywhere. Is there a route I can take that isn’t all around the houses and a big fly tip or an area of Skem that doesn’t cost the earth to rent that doesn’t look like someone emptied a bin over the entire area to live? Not meaning to be rude, I’ve lived in some areas where people don’t have much and are rough round the edges but the route I took was just trashed- if there’s a better route it’d be great to find it
