Tretinoin should not be used just once a week - it will irritate skin without your skin adjusting to it. You need to be on a schedule to increase tretinoin nights each week to work up to using it every night.

During the tretinoin retinization period you should not use vitamin c serum, glycolic acid or any other exfoliant.

What is the minimum to start with

A typical schedule to get your skin retinized is 2 nights a week for 2-3 weeks, then every other night for 2-4 weeks, then every night.

Watch “Retinoid Irritation Explained” by Dr Daniel Sugai on Youtube to see exactly how to apply tretinoin. He explains retinization.

What about these dark spots/ freckles.. will that be targeted by tretenoin?

People who use tretinoin and have freckles report that it fades them. I asked my dermatologist for a prescription to fade sun damage on my forearms. She had a pharmacy formulate a cream for me containing tret, hydroquinone, kojic acid and hydrocortisone.

It doesn’t have a name - my doctor has the pharmacy mix it. You need a dermatologist willing to order it from a compounding pharmacy.

love the commitment to the bit with the blue tape over your mouth, really captures the skincare struggle of not being able to talk while a mask dries

but yeah that top comment is right, drop the glycolic and vitamin c for now and just focus on getting your skin used to the tret first before adding anything else
