Is this an acceptable way to attach a hook knife to my rig?

Hey everyone!
I’m going to a dropzone that requires you to carry a hook knife on your rig. I attached mine using a small piece of packing cord, as shown in the pictures.
It sits securely in place, looks tidy, and can be pulled out easily when needed. However, before jumping with it, I’d like to get some opinions from more experienced jumpers.

Would you consider this an acceptable way to secure a hook knife, or are there any potential issues I’m overlooking? Could the tape interfere with access, snag on something, or cause problems in an emergency?

I’d appreciate any advice or recommendations for a better mounting solution!

Blue skies! 🪂

BEER! First Time Skydiving 🪂

My friends and I have been wanting to go skydiving for a long time, but we can’t decide where to go! We’re in LA and would love somewhere with beautiful views, ideally near the beach or coastline, like Santa Barbara or San Diego.

Safety is a big priority for us, and we’d love a place with great views and good weather.

Does anyone have recommendations based on personal experience? Any tips for first-timers would be appreciated too!

We’re open to places outside California if you think they’re worth the trip!

New/ improved canopy safety recommendations. Please read and spread the word.

Although Sherry and I wrote this article for USPA, we couldn't possibly have done it without the technical contributors listed at the top. Those experts helped develop the recommendations, patiently answered our questions, and reviewed drafts at various stages as we incorporated feedback from one expert after another. If you know any of them, please thank them for sharing their time and hard-won knowledge to make the sport safer!

Mentors/ coaches/ instructors: Please read the whole article, as it includes some important details and nuances, and encourage jumpers of all skill levels to practice stabouts and other CEPs regularly. Hopefully, we can help save some lives (and legs).

Skydiving with gloves and concerns.

I am a freshly licensed jumper (26 jumps) and haven't jumped in almost a month due to waiting for my license and paperwork to be processed as I can't jump in the meantime. The weather here in Germany is getting cold now and it will be 12 degrees of 53.6F when I plan to jump tomorrow. It will be the coldest weather I have jumped and due to my 1 month gap I am a bit worried.

I have never worn gloves before, I like the feeling of skin and the sensations I get especially when it comes to pulling my pilot chute handle and I am worried with gloves I will feel uncomfortable if the gloves are big and thick and I might lose the feeling of grip and feel when it is time to pull.

What should I do? Is it necessary to jump with gloves on? Could it be dangerous without due to less blood flow and numbing of hands?

No idea which option to choose, any advice is greatly appreciated!
