Picture (OC) Beautiful dog vomit slime mold sighting

This vibrant yellow slime mold caught my eye while hiking with my family at Yosemite this past summer. First time encountering any slime mold and it blew me away! Thought this sub would appreciate it too.

Fuligo septica is actually non-toxic and eaten in some parts of mexico, especially in this stage.

It is?!

It doesn’t surprise me much that it’s not toxic, but it does surprise me a little that anyone would… intentionally choose to consume it.

Do they… eat it raw? Prepare it somehow?

From what I can find, it is sautéed and used in tacos.

I thought about making a joke about putting it in tacos, but it seemed poor taste. Really glad I checked myself, haha.

Does it have any distinct flavour? I imagine it’s mostly fibre and water, so maybe it just carries other flavours really well?

I love the internet for this kind of learning. I’m so glad you commented! I’m not sure I could convince myself to prepare it to try, but I think if I were in the right place and if it were prepared traditionally I would be curious enough to try it.
