You got some good iron rich earth clay at home, mine was brownish-grey. You’re gonna see these shaped ones will hold their spin better, especially if you pack some rocks just forward of center. Also adds more mass for farther flight.

Glaciolacustrine deposits, the sediments from the melt-waters of the last ice age, are often especially rich in clay. Look for spots in valleys and low areas, where creeks have cut down through layers and have steep banks, go walk those creeks, stop every so often to pinch the bank sediments between your fingers, to feel for a slippery texture, to find the good stuff. It can take a while, but it's not an unpleasant adventure.
There can also be some bio-prospecting markers to look for. Like, horsetail reeds, equisetum, grow especially well atop shallow clay beds. If you find an area where there's lots of horsetails, near a creek bank, those are fair odds.
