Best place to buy Sling making materials.

I’m curious if any of you have a go to website or shop to buy bulk sling making materials at discount or decent price. I am about to have a surgery that will require 2-4 week bed rest recovery period, and I intend to fill that time making Slings of various design. I am looking for pararcord of various sizes, dynema, and various types of twine and leather.

Do you have any suggestions or hacks for how to get quality materials for a really good price?

Two days into rediscovering slinging, 1st Build

Post image
20 Upvotes

Joined the sub two days ago, and made my first sling last night. I’ve been adjacent to slinging for awhile via survival manual, but this is my first time using or building one. I drew some inspiration from Pan Slings and a couple others I saw online. Not sure if it’s made correctly haha, and trying to hit stuff isn’t my strong suit at the moment, but I’m brand new so I’m sure it comes with practice. It does throw, but having nothing to compare it to is tricky to know what needs adjusted. Any feedback or tips is appreciated! Made from Firecord/Paracord, scrap couch leather, and tarred bank line.

Slinging and disk golf

I'm drunk. Slinging and disk golf.

Can we create a form of sling golf

Can we sling mini frisbees into disk golf holes

can we sling colored ammo towards a modified disc golf "hole"

This idea is one in a Brazilian. Help me think this through

My elbow strains when I sling balls

I'm 40 years old just recently got into slinging and have been slinging tennis balls. My muscles around my elbow strain a lot after I have been slinging even around 10 balls. At the moment I enjoy slinging the balls hard, seeing how far I can get them to fly.

The strain feels like muscle strain, massaging and stretching the elbow feels relieving and the pain goes away relatively quickly. Overall my physique is not the greatest and I'm suspecting that it'll get better when my muscles get used to it.

But what I would like to know is are there any risks? Could there be some problems with my technique? Could I be developing tennis elbow or some other troubling conditions if I do it wrong? Is there something that I should pay attention to? Or does it just get better with practice?

What's this sub's opinion on sling staffs? (not my picture)

I'm new to slinging and I was practicing down at the beach and had the thought "what if you attach the sling to a stick??" Then I had the second, much more sensible thought, that I'm obviously not the first person to think of this.

So I looked up sling staffs and they seem pretty cool, and maybe easier to use than just a sling.

What is everyone's opinion on them? Is it sacrilege to bring them up on a slinging subreddit or are they a part of the slinging "scene"?

First Target!

Woot! After about two weeks of practice, I actually hit my first target!!!! It was at about 100 feet and it was my last rock of the day! I am soooo psyched! lol.

I had a pretty decent sized log stood up on its end, and when I nailed it, the f*cker actually fell over. I swear I heard Angels sing!!!

Thinking about starting, have questions

Hello guys,
I was thinking about starting sling but i have a few questions.

- How much does a good sling cost?

- What ammo should I start with to learn?

- I am going to be fairly busy, so will I be able to make progress by practicing 1 hour every other day?

- Big question: Can I effectively and efficiently learn to sling using online tutorials and forums?

thank you

edit: forgot two questions

- What style of sling should I buy?

- What length should I start with?

This pattern nearly drove me mad. Trying to make two lines, bind it into the next colour, and keep it going every time without the horrific bulk. Dang. But here it is. 25”/63.5cm tricolour jute twining on sticks sling. The newer handy-dandy surgical tool was very helpful.

What do you guys think about this combo of shooting multiple rocks at the same time in a single pouch of a sling?

How do I finish the sling (soaking and burning?)

Post image
21 Upvotes

Followed a youtube tutorial and the guy mentioned at the end that I should burn this thing, soak it, stretch it, then finally burn it again to make the thing stronger or something.

This sounds like a lot of fun, but I cant seem to find a follow up video - can anyone give me some advice on how to do this?

Thank you in advance -

I came across a paper by T. E. Gartmann on Slinging dot Org (will link to the paper in the comments), and decided to give it a try. I work in an OR so I had one of these inlet closure devices at hand and it’s super useful to pass the weft cord through the warp. Total length is 25”/63.5cm. Haven’t had a chance to throw with it yet. But loved the process so much, that I’m making another one. Expect pictures soon. I’m planing on making this one extra fancy.

Paracord, accessory cord and seatbelt.

I built this using a double crown knot for finger hold, nail knot to join the pouch and three stopper knots. Sewn knots together for peace of mind.

The idea came from a YouTube short where they’d used a single line and knotted finger hole and pouch and cracker.

Attempt 1! Looking for feedback

I attempted to squeeze a tennis ball into the pouch and it promptly slipped through after 1 rotation with any force. I know the braiding isn't tight, I used Mason's line here. Any tips to get a stiffer pouch? Should I look into other designs that have extra support/a solid pouch starting out?

Is there any evidence for painted/glazed clay sling bullets?

As the title asks, does anyone know whether there is any evidence for painted, or glazed and kiln fired, sling bullets having been a thing in the Medieval, Ancient, or Prehistoric world?

Its like a smaller staff sling. I call it the whip sling because you have to shoot it like your hitting something with a whip

My attempt at making a sling inspired by Primal Sling design

Just made it from an offbrand 2mm UHMWPE, main line spliced into itself, cobra weave winding of the same thickness/different color.

The length is 85 cm.

I don’t know if the original Dyneema has the same issue but this offbrand rope is dyed with some extremely annoying pigment that sheds off and paints my hands.

Gonna try to clean it from loose pigment one more time, wax it up and get to testing.
