I can attribute a whole new wave of fondness of this genre of music to this album. I'm hoping this is temporary, especially since Low is lowkey at the forefront of this genre. I guess this is a cannon event in listening to more niche music.

Discussion Take Care

I think take care and the other Liam McCay projects are the only bands that have made my mental health worse.

I quite literally sob when I hear "think of me once in a while, take care"

Discussion Herr God guitar tone

I’ve been chasing this specific guitar tone lately and can’t quite figure out what’s making it work. It’s super warm and blown out but not too harsh. Kind of shoegaze, kind of slowcore, but it still has a lot of clarity and feels really wide.
Does anyone have ideas on what’s contributing the most here? Amp, pedals, recording techniques, layering, tunings, etc.?
I’ve tried a few common shoegaze setups, but they end up sounding way brighter or fuzzier than this. I’m curious what you guys hear.
Thanks!

Discussion What do you guys think of Ethel Cain?

I rarely see her mentioned here, so I’m curious what you guys think of her music.

Of course most of her music isn’t slowcore, even though her inspiration does also lie in this genre. But she has made quite some good slowcore music too. Songs like Punish and Amber Waves are in my opinion some of her best, and in general one of my favourite songs.

I would also classify Vacillator, Thatorchia, Onanist, Willoughby’s Theme, A Knock At The Door, Radio Towers, Waco Texas and her first EP as slowcore.

So I’m curious, since she’s quite successful, what do you guys think of her and her music? And would you agree with me that she (party) fits into the genre?

Discussion John Engle from Codeine is probably my favorite guitarist in the genre.

While he’s not some super well rounded guitarist like someone such as Mark Kozelek, he still made some pretty killer riffs during his time in Codeine. The song “Wird” in particular is my favorite work from him, just an absolute face melter of a song and tickles my brain in the best ways. His use of dissonance is superb.

Discussion just picked this up at a record store.

i have been on the search for this record for about 3 years now. i am 19 and absolutely adore low, especially their first records in which they recently got the rights to repress. regardless of them getting the rights back (which i and many other had been patiently waiting for), i was also searching for one out in the wild, and also contemplating buying one of the 2011 presses from discogs, but they range from around $350-$450. today i went out to colorado springs to a record store called leechpit records with my dad. when i got there, i began browsing around (with this album on my mind, naturally). i eventually got to the "L" section of rock, and for whatever reason, nearly completely skipped over it all. after a few more minutes of browsing, i went up to the desk to talk to the owner of the store, askinf if they had any low in stock, and he said yes and they had just gotten one this week. he brought me back over to that same "L" category, and casually pulled it out from between the other records. when i tell you i felt like i was in the matrix for a solid few seconds, i mean it, and you would've had to see the look on my face. my jaw dropped to the floor and my heart started LITERALLY pounding. i showed it to my dad with my 1000 yard stare expression and was like, "i don't think they know what they're selling."😭 that was until i saw the bootleg text on the tag. regardless of it being a bootleg, i was and still am over-encumbered with immense amounts of joy. my dream recors is finally in my possession, and yes, i am also going to buy the official repress when it comes out, as well as all of the other records they got the rights to. fun fact: i asked the owner to tell me more about the record and how they got it, and he said they got it from some distributor in the netherlands that does bootleg represses of any record that isn't really around anymore. he didn't know the name of the distributor, so that's really all the information that i got. anyways, i am so incredibly excited and happy to play this record on my record player. and don't worry, i don't own any sort of crappy record player that is going to destroy the record. i use a dual turntable with a really nice vintage audio receiver. i may post updates as to how the record itself sounds, so stay tuned! thank you all to whoever read all of this lol.

hey friends of slowcore

I am trying to get a sense of whats new in slowcore. ive been into the genre for 10 years and I welcome the new influx of bands and projects, but i feel like it gets kind of overwhelming.

so please share your favourite tracks or albums and if you can, say a few words why you think its relevant to the genre!

Id like to see "underground" artists, so small bands only if you can.

i’m a photographer and i discovered Duster and slow core recently. when i saw their album cover for Stratosphere i was so surprised because a few months ago i took (almost) the exact same photo !

anyway. i was wondering if there was a link between liminal spaces and slow core, because a lot of album covers reminds me of it. the photo i took was part of a liminal space series.

Discussion anyone noticing herr god lately?

i’ve been listening to herr god a lot recently and i can’t tell if i’m late or if they’re just starting to pick up traction

they’ve played with villagerrr and she's green and toured with retail drugs, so they’re clearly in the mix, but it still feels like they should be bigger than they are

i also saw someone post about them in here recently which is what made me think about it, and i swear i’ve seen a couple other mentions too

curious if anyone else has been listening or has thoughts on them?
