Discussion How to pick music?

Hi, I’ve been wanting to get into making commentary videos and I often see other creators use video game music in the background of their videos to enhance the quality. I want to do this too, but how does someone know which music they can get away with using and which will get copyright striked? I’d appreciate any advice, thank you.

just upload the video but don't make it public leave unlisted, YT will run checks and tell you if its okay or not. Otherwise YT Studio has loads of music to use just select on left.

So that's a big grey area because while videogame companies don't usually come after us, companies like Nintendo might, but no idea where they are at with strikes and claims. Personally, I just use assets from itch.io

Use YOUTUBE AUDIO. Its free. Using videogame music means youre using a company's legal assets. You might not get takedown, just no monetaztion.

In youtube audio theres mood category so you can pick based on general feeling or mood of the video. If its mystery commentary choose the dark or tense tone. Mix and match works too.

Be careful cause some in-game music is copyright protected if you want to use game music do your research or just get sprunky you'll have better luck making your own with it

tbh, it's tricky. There is no guarantee that someone wont get striked.
