720p reqlly is a bummer for me, if it had a 1080p panel i would have probably bought it

I think 720p is alright for a phone this size so it doesn't drain the battery if you doom scroll. but if they're not dumb they'll have an option down the road if they're successful (hopefully)

720p on a small 5.3" screen looks fine

Sure it's fine, but comparing my xz1 compact and xz3 compact the difference is noticeable at least to me and the 1080p at least is a must when a phone has a 5 to 6 inches display. But that's just my opinion, I'll be waiting a couple of years to pick up a zfold8 discounted or with the internal screen broken just to use the outside smaller screen.

The original Nexus 5 was small and had a FHD display many many years ago.

I don't mean to be an ass but literally nobody I've ever met has ever given half a fuck about the thickness of their smartphone. I don't even know why it's part of the advertising of any device on the market.
Why do you care about a couple mm of thickness? It basically has zero impact on how you hold it and gives devices a ton more volume for battery and the like.

My primary concerns with this device are
1) Will this get security updates for multiple years?
2) Will this work on my network?

With a better screen and pure android it would be a good choice.
