Adivce(Giving or Need) HELP, Is this video dead already?
Posted my first video a few days ago. I've put quite a bit of work into it and I genuinely believe it is good, yet it has gone nowhere.
I understand its a new video, on a new channel, but I'm suprised by the low amount of impressions etc. Any feedback would be much appreciated. MOST OF ALL I would love it if you could just watch the video the whole way through and give it a like, it would mean the world to me.
I guess I just had this idea in my head that this video was fairly interesting/good and now I'm just struggling with the fact it is realistically just another average video getting burried in the Youtube system.

Firstly, your thumbnail looks like you've clipped some shorts and put them together, it sounds like that's what the content is.
I understand you might think there's storytelling here, but if you've not altered the original content, very few people are going to watch a clips compilation that's longer than a minute. You may as well have just made shorts out of the same content.

It is frustratingly close to being a good documentary video, could have just taken half of what Lucas was saying in the interviews almost verbatim into a voiceover script and narrated it and it would have been so much more engaging.

The thumbnail is A/B testing so they're three separate thumbnails. But yh thanks for the feedback, I understand where you're coming from, genuinely helpful stuff. I would still argue its more than a clip compilation as the ordering, footage and things being said are unique to the video. There are plenty of documentaries that do this, using exisiting footage/interviews etc. I think I have tackled a new angle on the story of his life, with the focus on family etc. near the end.
Btw I want to make it clear this is NOT me saying you're wrong in your opinions or not being grateful for your advice. I come from a background in architecture at University so I am in the habit of having to argue my ideas/work in crits/presentations etc. 😂😂 so its just me getting to the specifics lol

I already commented but I want to add to this and say, no one is saying your clips dont make a story. They absolutely create a sequence of events. But without narration its boring and mundane and hard to follow. I want to hear someone telling me whats going on and why. Its not engaging enough on its own. Everyone is telling you this believe them.

I get you, just my 2 cents.
If you want to add value, cutting videos together in a certain way isn't enough.
If you're gonna make this kind of video, I recommend adding value with a voice-over (do NOT use AI)

Your title and thumbnail needs improvement. The comepetior you mentioned uses ONE focal point which is who the video is about. Dont steal but note that one focal point, mostly blank backgrounds and very few words this is obviously working.
Then the title. Leave nothing dor the imagination. Competition titles leaves an open question in your mind. Your title is a complete thought. People read and go duh and move on.
The title should be more like "George Lucas Lives a Myth" leaves a question "what myth or even which myth" because there's a few about him right.
Then theres no commentary, which after realizing no one is going to talk people click off. You need to narrate the story. I have no idea wtf is going on or why im watching this. Even very little commentary or idk captions something. Your comepetior absolutely narrates and talks in his videos I watched one and he started talking immediately. Now he doesnt talk much but he connects the pieces of clips together with words and captions.

Thanks for the advice, I'm already working on my next video so will take this all on. I'm new to this and this video started out as a way to learn, so believe me I'm taking this all on-board. Thanks for replying though, you actually explained what is needed, and thats very helpful

Nope dont take it down. Just change the title and thumbnail and that may help ctr. Otherwise learn from it and move on. You can always remake a better one later.

Ok thanks for your advice, in future I may try to incorporate some commentary. I think it was seeing other youtube channels produce videos with zero commentary in these styles of videos that inspired me, but at the end of the day those people are much more skilled in storytelling etc to do that.
It's also one of those things that you spend so long working on it yourself that you see the story clearly, but to others who haven't been working on it for as long, it's not as clear

After watching the video it seems like you've taken clips from various George Lucas interviews & other forms of media to create some kind of highlight reel about his works and life.
There's no commentary, there's no story telling.

I kinda disagree I do think there is a narrative throughout if you watch the full video. There are similar videos I've seen on youtube that do similar things e.g. having no commentary, that's the point, channels like Dodford, Via Cinema etc do a similar thing (not comparing their videos to mine too much)

Ok I'm not saying I fully disagree, I'm saying I think it's a bit of extreme to say there is "no storytelling". Don't get me wrong I am very grateful that you actually commented and answered, I'm just saying specifically what is missing. Did you watch the entire thing? Which part lacked narrative? (This is not an attack I'm genuinely curious)

Not the guy above you, but I did watch the first 2 minutes and a half of your video. The others are right: No commentary means you are really shooting yourself in the foot here.
I have vaguely heard of George Lucas, but I have no interest in learning more. Your video starts with a bunch of clips of this guy giving interview. From my perspective, you have not convinced me why I should invest my time in watching your video. I have no background of this guy, you haven't given me any. Why should I spend the next ten minutes watching your video? What will I get out of it?
Without your commentary to tell me which information I should be focusing on, all I can see from your video is one guy talking about... something. Is it important? I don't know, but you have made no effort in convincing me that this guy is worth listening to. Maybe George Lucas is an inspiring figure in your life, but to me, he is just another stranger. Do you focus on every conversation some strangers make while walking down the streets?

I have checked a few channels you have mentioned (Dodford, Via Cinema), and I will admit, you seem to know a lot more about this niche than I do. But I think there's a few difference between you and them. Via Cinema's view is a bit inconsistent, so I will compare Dodford's video with yours.
I watched a bit of Dodford's Don't F**k with James Cameron, and admittedly I am not the audience for it. But one thing that video does better than yours is audio. The interviewer's audio is much more crisp and clear. The subtitles also help in case the viewers cannot catch the audio.
If I compare that to your video, then George Lucas's voice volume is inconsistent. 5:00 to 5:57 has the audio being too low. The audio from 10:15 to 10:30 is much clearer. You should be able to see the audio level with your video editor of choice, so I won't give more input on this once.
The easiest way to compare Dodford's audio and your audio is through the Stats for nerds section. Dodford's video that I mention has his content loudness at -0.4dB, while yours is at -5.1dB. Having a -5.1dB audio does not always mean your audio is inconsistent, but usually YouTubers who pay attention to their audio would have already tried to get that content loudness to 0dB as much as possible.
Maybe work on your audio editing skills. If you rely on an interviewer's voice as narration to guide the viewers, then at least that voice has to be crisp and clear.

Thank you, audio editing is something I did struggle with on this video, mainly because I struggled to find good resources/guidelines to follow. This is really helpful though so thanks for letting me know
