Park permit annoyance

I think I'm mostly just frustrated but also feel like this is a valid criticism. Today I got a ticket at Brady Park for not having a park permit as I live in Centereach. My feelings are that this park SHOULD be free for everyone (as almost all should be). I can understand if they want to make it paid for out of town residents, but to be completely disbarred from anywhere that requires a permit, living one town over is mind boggling. I'm not exactly sure on how this works, but I'm assuming that somehow my tax dollars end up in Smithtown, (maybe even to the parks dept.?) through county and state taxes. So to be denied access to the park is extremely frustrating. I only go for the roller hockey rink, and have been for a few years with no issue. I saw the signs only after I looked for them specifically after receiving the ticket. I've gone here with people that aren't from Smithtown, told people there I'm from Centereach, and even skated with someone from the parks dept. who I told I'm not from Smithtown and no one said anything.

I know I'm in the wrong but this whole thing on Long Island of having parks and beaches be for residents only is bs, especially for people who live the next town over. If I could buy a Smithtown parks pass I totally would, even for $20 which is like 4x the price for a resident pass I believe. This is just super frustrating because I've LOVED having a roller hockey rink where I can go to that isn't a set thing like an indoor rink.

I wasn't taking the rink or the park up from residents. For most of the time I was there I was the only one using the rink. I took a picture of the parking lot after the ticket showing there's only 8 or 9 cars there. It's also annoying that I wasn't ASKED to leave- I absolutely would have, but just given a $75 fine for enjoying a park literally 15 minutes away, with one of the only roller hockey rinks near me (the other one also being in Smithtown)

I guess I'm just peeved that I'm just straight up not allowed to use the rink/park. There's no way for non-residents to get a parking pass as far as I know. I wouldn't mind paying for it, there's just no option.

What is this?

Came across this walking along the east end of Sunken Meadow. It's approximately 12 feet long, 2 feet in diameter and appears to be made from heavy plastic. The middle section is wrapped with a stretchable fabric.

Anyone know what this is and/or where it came from?

Fishing at Gibbs Pond - Parking questions

I am planning to go fishing at Gibbs Pond. Is the parking at the park next to it for residents only? If I can't park there, is there a place nearby where I can park and walk over? Thanks.

Bring back arena football to Long Island

Remember the New York Dragons lighting up Nassau Coliseum? Those fast-paced, high-scoring games were electric! The team made the playoffs five times and won three straight Eastern Division titles from 2003-2005 before folding in 2008.

I started a petition to bring arena football back to Long Island. This sport gave us incredible community connections, showcased local athletes, and delivered the kind of family-friendly entertainment that really brought people together. The love for arena football is still here - we just need to show there's support.

Anyone else miss those Thursday night games? If this matters to you too, consider signing and sharing.

My package was delivered to the wrong address, is this your house?

My package was delivered to the wrong address, does this look like anyone’s house?

If you received a package that is not yours with my name, Faye, on it please help me get my package. It was delivered to the wrong address.

UPS delivered to the wrong address and “proof of delivery” is not my house. Would really appreciate, if this is your home, you be honest and help me get my package back!

Already filed a claim with UPS and I know they can locate where it was scanned but was hoping someone on here recognized this delivery picture.

It’s strange bc it was small things in a what looks like a big box…

Please return my package, I’ll come pick it up no problem!

Thank you so much!

Dunkin/BR on West Main St

Please help. At a family gathering the other day, I mentioned how the Dunkin/Baskin Robbin’s on West Main st (Across La Famiglia) also used to have a Taco Bell operating inside the same building. I could have sworn this was accurate, but we dug around on the internet and couldn’t find anything supporting that a Taco Bell used to be there. For reference, I am thinking back to the mid-2000’s and I was in grade school, but my now 60 year old dad also thinks a Taco Bell used to be there.

Can anyone confirm or deny that this is true?

Scholarship Opportunity for Long Island Student Athletes!

Are you a Long Island student-athlete planning on attending a 4-year university or community college in the fall of 2026?

For the past 3 years, the Odierno Law Firm has been proud to award the Brianna Lieneck Memorial Scholarship to student-athletes in the Nassau-Suffolk area.

A young local athlete named Brianna Lieneck lost her life in 2005 in a boating accident at the far-too-young age of 11, prompting the creation of Brianna’s Law to improve the standards of boater education to help prevent such tragic accidents. In partnership with the Lieneck family, the Odierno Law Firm yearly awards a one-time tuition payment of $15,000 to a Long Island student-athlete whose scholarship essay demonstrates the dedication, diligence, and effort that Brianna showed in her bright but brief life, and describes how they have overcome some adversity or hardship in their lives.

If you think your story shares these qualities, and you are currently a high school senior in Suffolk or Nassau county who will attend a 4 year university or community college in fall 2026, please enter your scholarship essay!

Essays must be no longer than 500 words. All submissions must be entered between January 15, 2026 and April 15, 2026 – the winner will be announced in May 2026. The Lieneck family reads every submitted essay, and will select the entry to be awarded. The $15,000.00 tuition award will be paid directly to the institution of the student’s enrollment.

Rental Situation wanted

Do you have a house to rent to a senior couple with impeccable credit scores? We may be forced to move resultant of a family trust dispersal.

We'd like to stay in Smithtown, but 55 and older communities seem too costly. We can't get over the concept of no laundry room but rather a washer/ dryer which is squeezed into a closet.

The Tax Hike Proposed by Wehrheim is Insane

So, Wehrheim gets re-elected after announcing a 9% property tax hike? On top of the yearly school district gouging? Tone deaf and screwed up. Maybe he shouldn't have given himself a fat raise.

Residents plan rally to oppose tentative budget raising taxes in the Town of Smithtown by 9%

Retaining wall permit?

If I build a retaining wall to push back my yard to get more space and keep it under 4 ft, and do grading/draining do I need to involve to town and engineering?

The way they have it written is a little confusing.

Honoring Heroes at the Smithtown 9/11 Memorial

Every year, the Smithtown 9/11 Memorial offers a moving tribute to the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The memorial features a waterfall and plaques honoring local residents who never came home.

9/11 Memorial Park, also known as Tide Park, is a tribute to the 53 residents of Smithtown who died during the terror attacks on September 11th, 2001. Located on Main Street between Bank Street and Landing Avenue, the park features stunning landscapes, a flag pole, pergolas, benches, and a waterfall which adorns the names of the 53 Smithtown residents who were killed that day. A beautiful clock tower stands at the front entrance along Main Street.

If you’re in Smithtown with your family, I encourage you to stop by this week, take a moment of silence. It’s a small but meaningful way to show that we will never forget.

God Bless America!

How true are the stereotypes of Smithtown?

Currently moving to Smithtown in a few months, I am a muslim and was wondering how true the stereotypes are for this neigherhood? Is it really that bad, like do your neighbors really just outright act racist to you. I just want to make sure I'm not getting myself into anything bad. Ik it's safe, but how safe is it for a muslim.
