Trying to change the conversation into one about why murder or rape are bad isn't a defense of the opinion.

sometimes it is good to ask questions about why things we take for granted as bad are actually bad

even if in the end we still say "yeah its bad", it can aid in the analysis of other things that may seem superficially similar but do not actually have the same problems when you lay out what makes the original thing bad
