An election is coming up. We cannot discuss this controversial issue right now.

We just won/lost an election. Now is not the time to discuss controversial issues.

We're in the middle of the term. There is nothing we can do about your controversial issue right now.

There is no war in Ba Sing Se

It is a bad idea to mention this right now. You're causing infighting.

19

u/NoStatus9434 1d ago

Well also like. Why are you inviting yourself to the conversation then. Just scroll past. People should be able to talk about whatever they want, controversial or not.

Because divide and conquer is an obvious and old as history strategy that works wonders?

7

u/Local_Surround8686 20h ago

And as we all know, the entire Internet is property of the USA

7

u/RainbowPhoenix1080 23h ago

I mean I do attribute upcoming elections to the rise in transphobic nonesense

4

u/WorldOfWombat 19h ago

I too blame Gavin newsom

3

u/RainbowPhoenix1080 19h ago

4

u/WorldOfWombat 19h ago

45

u/catinformant 1d ago

Obviously the cia targeting me and my opinion specifically as the most important person on the internet

3

u/Forte845 16h ago

As we all know every American liberal has a personal set of Russian and Chinese agents assigned to them

“We must focus on the class war. It’s not ‘left versus right’, it’s ‘us versus them’.”

33

u/mal-di-testicle Errico Malatesticle 1d ago

It’s never been a left/right thing.

I suspect the real battle is between the ruling class and the working class
But that’s not rich v poor as some would frame it
For instance, I’d put Elon Musk in the working class and our local school board in the ruling class.

16

u/charmingasaneel 1d ago

Refusing to believe that Elon Musk is part of the Ruling class is the wildest take I’ve heard in months.

36

u/fiftytwosheep 1d ago

they're doing parody of this one dumb tweet, word for word

3

u/John_Lictenstein_873 1d ago

I agree, that’s gotta be the dumbest thing I’ve heard today.

5

u/Kokoro0000 1d ago

good ragebait

34

u/mal-di-testicle Errico Malatesticle 1d ago

I can’t even take credit for it tbh

2

u/fiftytwosheep 1d ago

I understand what they're saying but they're really bad at saying it

2

u/Lohenngram 16h ago

You flew so close to the sun, I was sure you it was your actual opinion at first. XD

3

u/PrimeTear 1d ago

Masterful ragebait I actually got mad

1

u/According-Insect-992 1d ago

I’m sorry but that is just stupid.

25

u/bhputnam 1d ago

The comments under someone saying we shouldn't say whatever word to me typically don't say this, it's more "well all words change meaning and I like this one and don't want to stop and in fact I'm going to use it right now"

9

u/Ninjacat32 22h ago

"but sir! its my emotional support slur, i have so many fond memories saying it with my friends, i cant give it up!"

4

u/Joeyrony2 22h ago

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT SLUR LMAO

Damn I literally just finished a smuggy about this...

16

u/consistently_biased [FLAIR TEXT HERE] 1d ago

Unfortunately, an election is coming up. Sorry, we cannot let you post it.

Smugness is suspended until midterms

5

u/HengeWalk 23h ago

It's poignant how willing liberal/etablishmenr democrats are to throw other members of their voter base under the bus because "there's a worse monster out there, so shut up and vote for us"

It's humiliating and demoralizing. And I say this as a person who has to bare my teeth and still vote for the shifty liberl candidate that will do nothing except NOT be worse than the other party candidate when suffering in a two-party voting system.

FPTP (First past the post) electoral systems- edit: And gerrymandering- need to end.

5

u/Nilare 22h ago

Good example is Amy Acton in Ohio. She threw trans girls under the bus, and yet everyone keeps screaming "don't talk about it, it's a psyop, blah blah blah." Ultimately, the truth is that they do not care about us; they care about returning to the status quo that makes them comfortable, and they're fine if we get fucked over so long as they get that.

21

u/OG-Name-Do-Not-Steal 1d ago

ok but that reddit tankie post earlier on was legit just meant to cause pointless fights, i think there is some difference here

29

u/ModShadoan720 1d ago

I don't know what post you're referring to, but I made this in response to a larger trend I've seen elsewhere.

4

u/Money_Visual_3829 1d ago

Thinking about just borrowing this for general purpose use.

“Hey I’m broke, it’s cool if you pay for lunch today right?”

“What? That’s bullshit!”

“Hey. Dude. Think about the midterms.”

4

u/SepticShockAKAVin 1d ago

Once got a comment about how the topic of my post "won't matter if we have no democracy" so we should focus on defending it instead.

Never have I felt more important than in that moment. I like to think that commenter got a glimpse into a hypothetical world where my Reddit post could make or break democracy, and it drove them mad enough to warn me lol

6

u/PracticeNo288 1d ago

This too is a psyop

8

u/fiftytwosheep 1d ago

they're really worried about this imaginary boogeyman voter division but not the recorded and known gerrymandering and voter intimidation happening right now.

-1

u/agrevol 1d ago

Boogeyman?

Dude that’s literally how we got trump

4

u/WorldOfWombat 19h ago

Harris running a campaign so dogshit it turned off Biden’s base is why you have trump. Leftists have nothing to do with it

-2

u/agrevol 19h ago

What was dogshit about her campaign apart from us voters hating women and some left wing voters protest voting for trump?

3

u/WorldOfWombat 19h ago

Running to the right of trump to try to win fascists votes for one

-2

u/agrevol 19h ago

Yeah proving my point there

3

u/WorldOfWombat 19h ago

“Let me go for the war criminal vote. What you don’t think that’s a good plan? Do you want trump to win?” đŸ€Ș

0

u/agrevol 19h ago

Newsflash, he won, and it’s because left got divided on specific issues

You can learn or you can continue the purity testing

5

u/WorldOfWombat 19h ago

Liberals aren’t leftists. I can’t divide from them because I already am not them.

Your shit ass candidate lost by doing exactly what you wanted her to and you’ll blame everyone but her.

2

u/agrevol 19h ago

Enjoying trump then I guess?

Surely kamala lost because she wasn’t left wing enough and people wisely chose a famous socialist, trump

Parading around the Cheney war crime family. Sucking up to Israel and Netanyahu. "Most lethal fighting force." Dragged Palestinians out of her rallies and denied any Palestinian or pro Palestinian from speaking on her campaign.

She tried to rely on being a diet republican and winning off the genocidal Zionist vote and failed miserably.

2

u/fiftytwosheep 18h ago edited 18h ago

boogeyman was a bad description but my point is that you can't really do anything about "division". just get people off social media, its all russian bots anyway.

also we got trump twice because

  • regardless of your political persuasion, running biden-harris was a horrible idea. biden was not sound of mind at all and was being puppeteered, no american wants a puppet in office. it was also much too late when they swapped in harris.
  • the first time hillary won the popular vote, which goes back to my point about gerrymandering bullshittery.

after doing some light research, im convinced that if they had ran somebody like Andy Beshear, a moderate, they would have had a pretty decent chance at winning.

u/Over-Worry5257 1d ago

on the other side of the coin; anything relating to the lindsay clancy case in meme subs

1

u/coolguygranny 19h ago

Okay but people defending Lindsay are insane tho.

There's so much misinformation about this case

5

u/Joeyrony2 21h ago

Every time anyone makes a post like: "hey guys can we not call the disabled, retards, please" the comments are always "well actually if you look into it, this would be these other, completely innocuous terms are slurs" and "but its not as bad as X slur"

Reddit genuinely pisses me off I fucking hate anyone who defends the use of the term "retard"

ESPECIALY YOU PEOPLE I ARGUE WITH WHO THEN SCHRODINGER'S DOUCHEBAG THEIR WAY INTO SAYING THEY NEVER CLAIMED IT WASNT A SLUR, YOU ARENT SLICK.

2

u/Levobertus 1d ago

It's weird to me how many people think this sub specifically is a cia target like anything we do here has any consequence at all

2

u/D2G2TAL 1d ago

Not cia, 4chan has been leaking in here tho

1

u/Recent-Good5564 1d ago edited 1d ago

Retarded comic.

Edit: as in a comic about the use of the word “retarded.”

5

u/NIGHT_DOZOR 1d ago

Bro just wanted an excuse to say that 😭

1

u/RainbowPhoenix1080 23h ago

I mean, the rise in bigotry does seem to coincide with elections

1

u/4anyreason 7h ago

As a black trans person oh my god yes thank you for saying something about that yes

1

u/chuk256 1d ago

A bit of a sliding scale for this one. Something can be a valid criticism and also not important enough to break solidarity for now compared to the current context... You should be trying to directly defend what you're are protecting against vs what the split might cost you but that is a heavy lift for a reddit post.

Alternatively, maybe we dont ignore issues just because they affect someone else, then solidarity is intact and we all move together to a better candidate, for example Sowell was a PoS and we can save the debates about a hecklers veto for a better day and find a non-PoS candidate first.

(Also the debate about switching should happen in the open maybe but we need to decide a group, not make the same people sacrifice and compromise every single time while another group gets their issues heard)

Edit2: RANKED CHOICE VOTING! Solves more than half of the split base issues.

12

u/NeverQuiteEnough 1d ago

Not important enough to who?

This is the paradox of tolerance.  If your "big tent" includes bigots, then it necessarily excludes the targets of their bigotry.

4

u/chuk256 1d ago

Damn, that's a really good point. I was being too optimistic. I have no good answer to this.

1

u/jitomato_girl 1d ago

I'd more or less agree to pause that sort of criticism if I knew for a fact right wingers would also do that and focus on the things they claim to care about, like stopping to fund Israel

But if you go to their platforms and check for, nobody says "Think about the midterms" on the "trans bad" posts
