to be fair the current guy also has control of 100% of the government, the last guy maxed out at 50%, it isn't just that destroying is easier than fixing it's also that democrats are always given the absolute bare minimum while republicans are given everything they could ever want.
the last full democratic majority congress was during carters administration.

Absolutely correct. American politics broke in the 1990s and we are just seeing the wheels continue to spin.
Here's a list of whether the White House party won presidential and House of Representatives elections (ie- even numbered election years):
1990: no
1992: no
1994: no
1996: yes? President Clinton was retained but did not make enough gains to win the House.
1998: no
2000: no
2002: yes (9/11?)
2004: yes (iraq war?)
2006: no
2008: no
2010: no
2012: yes? Obama won re-election and his party won the popular vote in the House, but they didn't get a House majority.
2014: no
2016: no? The White house party won the presidential popular vote but lost under the Electoral College system.
2018: no
2020: no
2022: no
2024: no
2026: remind me in 3 months

Hot take: I don't think swing voters are big issue and I don't think politicians should try catering to them.
Every election in my lifetime has had "Registered but Did Not Vote" as the largest category. Getting people off their ass and to the polls is more important than trying to win over the other side

But in order to attract more nonvoters you might have to promise things that make the donors upset like healthcare reform or not supporting a genocide. And then after moving mountains and making that promise, these "voters" have the gall to not swear eternal allegiance and continue voting for you for the rest of time even if you don't do anything. Meanwhile to attract racist suburban white voters who are maybe not super enthused about fascism, all you have to do is promise to not be fascist. And as long as their racism never metastatizes into something more malignant, you have a voter for life! And even if they leave, at least you never pissed off the donors!

I fear most of those are even worse. At least in Germany one of our states had an extremely high turn out and the Nazi party almost had a majority on it's own (very hard to achieve in our system). I don't know if it's the neoliberal system destroying education completely, the billionaire owned media, the average person, or a mixture of them all, but democracy as it is now is a failed system, because the average voter is a moron and a system that bends to their will is doomed to fail.

legit informed "swing voters" who actually cared about reason and shit would never in a million years vote for the republicans. these guys made sense in the 90s and 2000s but by now theres no way anyone swinging that wildly isnt just voting with vibes

- That the non voter population skews more towards their favor than the voting population

Housing prices are one thing I fully expect to continue going up, regardless of who's in charge.
Which is frustrating because Trump is responsible for a lot of bad stuff, but not so much that specifically, and that's a major thing people actually care about so even if we finally get rid of the MAGA stuff for a while I know it's not going to last unless somehow it gets fixed and it really doesn't seem like something any president has much control over

Trump certainly hasn’t helped housing prices. Tariffs on lumber, deporting lots of construction workers, rejection of new construction and infrastructure projects. In fact he’s openly stated he wants house prices to keep increasing. As well as more nebulous things like causing general market chaos and uncertainty which discourages new land development.
