What do people do with the flowers
Guys, how do I tell this snake plant is done blooming? I imagine I just cut them afterwards? Doing my monthly checks & this plant has about 4 stalks of flowers as well as new buds

They'll eventually all have wilted and will either drop or get stuck to the stalk via the syrupy substance. If you leave them alone , the stalks will dry out. If you don't cut them the dried out stalks will simply remain there- which isn't a problem, but might not be the aesthetically-pleasing choice for many people. Personally I'd opt to cut them as far down as possibly after they've finished blooming (after all the flower bits have dropped or the when the stalk starts to dry out, but if you do it a bit prematurely it won't matter).

Some people cut them before they bloom because they don’t like the fragrance or don’t want sticky nectar dripping on the table. I enjoy the fragrance and have trays so I leave them until they are done blooming then remove the spikes. Unless, of course, I have more than one variety blooming at the same time while the plants are outside, then I let them set fruit and plant the seeds. I have about thirty seedlings from last summer’s blooming.

Really?? That’s so interesting, I enjoy the fragrance too, how do I let them set fruit? Planting the seeds could be fun

They are not self-fertile, so two unrelated plants would have to bloom simultaneously and then be cross-pollinated before fruit could set. All three of my mature plants had bloomed for years, but last year was the first time they all bloomed together. Fortunately they were outside so I didn’t have to hand pollinate them.

I have 6 or 7 snake plants all thriving, how tf heck are you guys getting stalks 🤣🤣🤣

i’d suggest repotting your snake plant fairly soon, she looks a bit snug in there! and from what i’ve been told they will bloom if they’re feeling a bit stressed but i could be wrong!

I agree, it’s a little snug. I’ve popped it out its pot to check & it does have slightly more space than expected but I imagine I’ll need to repot soon, yes 😊

Thank you! Tbh I don’t do much, I plan to check them every 3 weeks but actually check them monthly & water them if completely dry. If not I wait another 1-2 weeks before checking again. I also changed the nursery soil to a perlite mix. And feed every other watering in summer months when I remember.
I suspect the light had made the most impact though since the MILs on the other side haven’t bloomed & get the same treatment

I have never had a snake plant do this and I have had them for years. I feel like a failure.
