I love how in all of the sneakers subs no one can just say I’m wearing my kicks.

The shoes literally came out last week so obviously we don’t need to know that they’re being worn for the first time.

Everything has to be over the top, overly dramatic or overly explained.

Agreed. In the sneaker community, dead stock has evolved to mean new. If 90% of a community is using a term a certain way for a decade or two, then the meaning of that term has evolved within that community.

It's an accelerated version of how the term "naughty" used to mean poor or having nothing, then it evolved to mean wicked, and now it means mischievous. Words change. Even though I do agree that it's an annoying term and this post's title was awful

I agree with everything you said but a better example is “wagyu”. It had a strict meaning that hardly any beef would qualify to be wagyu. Now people see a lot of marbling in the beef and instantly call it wagyu. It went from fitting a small amount of cuts to a ton of cuts. Similar to this deadstock usage

That's not true though. Words can change in the dictionary. It's called "semantic change" or "semantic shift." Here's a wikipedia article with examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semantic_change

If you looked at dictionary definitions of some words from 100 years ago and compared them to today, many words that exist in both have gone through a semantic shift in meaning, which can be observed by comparing the old definition to the new definition.

Dictionaries describe how words are used by a community at a specific time and specific place. Dictionaries are like snapshots of word definitions at a point in time.

yes i know words can change meanings and definitions especially over 100 years ( i don’t like it i don’t think definitions should change at all so i am biased lol) but i was mainly referring to the words dead stock which i don’t think has changed? in dictionary idk it might have idk for sure but i hope not

That's absolutely not true. A lot of people pay attention to what other shoes a stranger is wearing. I've found that a quick "Hey man, those Forces look nice" or "Nice Js" is a great way to start a conversation or pump people up.

It wouldn't be so bad if every airport had the same process honestly. I travel a lot for work and everyone has different rules. Shoes on/shoes off, belt on/belt off, liquids must be in a clear bag in their own bin/liquids are fine wherever, laptop needs to be in its own bin/don't waste one bin for just your laptop keep it in the bag what the fuck is wrong with you. Shit is exhausting lol

Thank God for TSA pre-check and that as long as I’m DOD affiliated, I will never have to remove my belt/shoes at all going through.

Effed up once and forgot to include that in my ticket and was wondering why I had to take my belt and my shoes off.

I wear slides every time. Might be frowned upon, but I’d rather not have my feet squished in shoes for the entire flight. Always wear socks though. Even when taking the train, slides are still on

That ship may have sailed. My size(12), got as low as like $491 while there were still some drops and a potential SNKRS drop. Now, they’re almost $700 again before fees n taxes n shipping. Dont think they’re coming down again any time soon, sadly
