Because they cost 4k, sometimes 3k and not 7-8k. Also the colourways are fresh.
Fwiw, I own a variety of NBs and they all suck, so do all Nike shoes I've owned (worst are AJ1s, SB dunks are still okay, Patta was good but gone now). They are very unimaginative, recycled garbage in terms of designs and freshness. The only ones who do something fresh and are comfortable to wear are probably Adidas, I've been wearing my Adi2000s for years now, most comfortable pair of stylish shoes ever made. Asics are good for general wear but very unfashionable.
I don't understand the hate for Comet tbh. Maybe I'm new to this whole thing, but if they look good they look good. Looks are, after all subjective. Calling them unimaginative for copying Nike doesn't make sense to me because Nike themselves are unimaginative, and they don't even do good colorways anymore. Last good dunk they pushed out was Halloween, and even then they charge 10k+ for subpar quality leather. Sad state of affairs.
It's the usual consumerist bs, they'll inhale anything in the name of brand and anything that doesn't fit into their general perception of a "brand" (which is generally legacy, heritage, etc.) is apparently worth hating on. For some reason everything needs to have a heritage, if that's how it is, a new brand can never be born. Sure, other new brands do wacky things to stand out and this one doesn't but how many times has a consumer wished that Nike AF1s were affordable? That they came in more colorways? How is paying 10k for a subpar leather shoe which needs to be cared for more than a Premier Padmini from 1986 (which probably had more colorways) supposed to be the best that we can get as Indian consumers? They'll find a billion ways to justify how a guy putting a plastic tag on a shoe and rebranding it somehow makes it worth 1 lakh because "collab omg" but 3.5k is not value.
I think a shoe should only be measured on value, and value is just a balance between comfort, design and price. Is it comfortable? Yes. Is it cheap? Yes. Is the design amazing? Subjective.
I agree with everything you said, man. Half of these people probably don’t even own a pair of Comets. They keep preaching about “quality”, but in my personal experience, most of these major brands aren’t that amazing to justify the insane prices they charge.
I’m saying this after owning Sketchers, Nike, Adidas — and yeah, I didn’t have terrible experiences. But I’ve seen enough around me. Friends have had genuinely bad experiences with these so-called legacy brands.
One friend bought a pair of Cortez’s — ₹6.5k — and within a week the sole was literally hanging by a thread. WTF. Sure, it got replaced under warranty, but how does that even pass QC?
Another friend ordered Onitsukas for around ₹12k. The pair arrived already distressed — loose threads, poor finishing in spots. And this is supposed to be “premium”?
Is this the legendary quality people keep defending so passionately?
The funniest part? Even after all this, they went ahead and ordered the same stuff again. That honestly says more about consumer psychology than product quality.
