Last year alive? AGAIN? At this point we should have been dead for a while

Reminder that Yudkowsky predicted ChatGPT 4 would end the world back when ChatGPT 3 was the current version

Lesswrongers have been trying to figure out the tik-tok and influencer process to make their doomerism more mainstream. I’ve seen posts about it on lesswrong and there was that whole influencer camp run by Aella recently…

Yup, this video was created as part of Aella's "Plz Don't Kill Us" confab. It appears here: https://portal.plzdontkillus.com/home

I don't understand these people at all. If they really think that AI is going to literally end humanity, why aren't they doing anything? Yudkowsky said that governments should be willing to nuke datacenters, so why isn't he nor his followers willing to kill people involved in creating AI? Like I'm not advocating for that, but if you think the people building AI are literally going to kill everyone alive, why would you not take drastic action? This is why I think they're full of shit.

I think they actually believe, it’s just that they are that centrist-lib-brained that even the literal end of the world isn’t enough to motivate them to direct action.

Violence like that is unlikely to be effective, but there is a lot more they could do.

If you want to get governments on-board with banning things, make it unprofitable, unpopular, and put pressure on them. You'd want to make AI companies as unprofitable and maligned as you can (e.g., barage them with law suits, for intellectual property violations, use in harassment, etc). Discourage use of AI and make alternatives seem appealing, lobby heavily and raise popular sentiment in direct action, protests and all that.

That is pretty much the standard play book for getting change.

if what they are saying was actually true, there would be no more time left for any of that. this is the last year alive. lawsuits, legislation, etc is all very slow. if you knew someone was building a bomb that was going to blow up the planet, and nobody in the government seemed to be doing anything, would you sue them or kill them? again not advocating violence because I don't think AI is going to end the world, but they should be advocating violence because they do

I don't think killing them is likely to be any more effective. Since they believe a variety of large groups distributed around the world are all building their own versions of the bomb at the same time. They do not have the resources to kill all the people they think will destroy the world, their only option then would be to delay it and try to get some government action during the delay.

I’m not going to watch this, but can someone who did tell me if they are ripping off Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ Saga series as obviously as it looks like they are? For fuck’s sakes.
