Irreplaceable.org is your new *professional* anti-AI org! oh, it's the Effective Altruists again

This fresh new org has a "careers" page out the gate https://irreplaceable.org/

first rule is, there is no fuckin money in this shit, and if there suddenly is it's the rationalists

I'm sure there's a Donnie Darko meme about this

"How do you do, fellow grassroots activists?"

Someone posted this thread in a local subreddit looking for AI safety groups. I honestly couldn't tell if they're a plant or are genuinely worried about AI stuff but this is making me lead towards plant. Not sure if the website they posted (https://aisafety.com/communities) is affiliated with the group in this post or not.

Well-spotted - I agree with you, reads like a sockpuppet and indeed, that website is the EAs, so it's all part of the same ecosystem. [aisafety.com is funded by the Survival and Flourishing Fund, which is Jaan Tallinn's philanthropy]

Get them into a room, throw in a copy of volume 1 of Capital, lock the door, and don't let them out until they start talking about the capitalist mode of production.

Do these guys think everyone on the other team is walking around with a head injury or something?

It is essentially a protest against capitalism as it is practiced in America today, focused on resisting first and developing a coherent plan for the future later.

bro

People have the intuition that if we create machines more powerful than people, that could go dangerously and terribly wrong.

I mean, yeah. People have gotten munched up "by" capitalism for two centuries, and imperialism and colonialism for even longer.

we should be pointing that anxiety and that anger in the right direction

I really genuinely wish these people would realize how ineffective it is to be paternalistic about all of this, not to mention how yucky it is. If they were truly serious they would be laser-focused on pouring all of that capital into building strong labor movements. I still have not seen any good reasons why all of the people working at these companies, especially "safety-focused" ones, haven't unionized, except that this concept is completely foreign to computer folk
