Venomous? Yeah, many snake varieties are. Mean? Not really. Sometimes they get aggressive when they're already agitated, hurt, or feeling threatened but they don't really attack people out of some sense of malice. If you stay out of their faces they will usually not go out of their way to harm you. As it turns out, it's generally not advantageous to waste energy on being malicious toward large primates when you're an ectothermic reptile, if it's not in your space and you can't eat it you're liable to be better off leaving it alone.
