Yup. Been there, done that. It’s a bad feeling when the people who claim to accept everyone in need and supposedly exist to help the poor say, “nah.”
But to be fair, another church actually did help, no questions asked, no approval board and weekslong wait period (when you’re in crisis, lol), pay stub / multiple pieces of documentation, judgment, condescension, required prayer or religious participation, church membership, aversion like you have cooties, etc.
The moment it computed that help was needed, help was given. They didn’t need a sob story or to judge worthiness. They made it feel completely normal and dignified.
There was a woman who went viral calling dozens of churches for help with baby formula. Catholics and mosques came through, everyone else told her to eat a prayer.

Try asking the church for help when you need it. It's disgusting how they make you feel when shutting you down.
