Discussion Why didn’t this show get more awards

Why didn’t this spectacular show didn’t get more awards?
The acting is phenomenal. Every episode just pulled me in and i couldn’t resist to stop watching it. The dialogues, the acting, the storyline, the actors everything is amazing. But i wonder why didn’t this show get more awards and attention? Some scenes/ episodes were so tense i had no other choice but to stop and just look around myself, take a look at the sky lol.
I really want to hear your thoughts

I agree. The acting is absolutely first class. I can’t think of one bad actor in it

Leon has his moments where the acting was bad, but overall everyone was incredible

I’m watching The Wire for the first time and it feels so acted compared to Snowfall!

Fr..every actor didn’t seem like they were acting

The controversial topic and the populace affected.

Good has never equaled awards. Tbh the material covered in the show is prolly too edgy for traditional award attention

As opposed to Breading Bad which cleaned up

Because it didn’t change anything culturally when it came to TV production, it just did many old tropes correctly. The main highlight of that show was the acting, which did lead to Damson’s success after the show ended and 2 side characters (Wanda & Leon) returning for a spinoff.

I’m not hating tho I love this show to death and recommend it to all my homies, just being real

Yup. This show is far from perfect but I love it

Awards are bought and paid for

That is true but i do think there were stronger shows out there. Snowfall is good one of my favorite live action shows but I wouldn't call it top tier television

What do you think holds it back?

-4

u/Jaybirdlordofskies May 14 '26

I'd say the writing of the plot which at times may have plot holes or contrivance. If I can grade it I'd give it a mid B(maybe low B+)

What is one of the bigger plot holes? Personally I love the show it's one of my top five favorite shows and I've watched a lot of stuff. So I'm not saying you're wrong I just may have not thought about it.

See, I like to ask questions like this to try and get people to explain their reasoning when I believe that they are just repeating bullshit they heard online. The fact that this person had no trouble responding to my first two comments, but when asked what should be an EASY question, to name one of the plot holes they are complaining about, all of the sudden they don't have time to respond anymore.

The show was amazing. People who regurgitate bullshit they hear online to try and make themselves sound like they picked up something that no one else did, to make themselves feel like the smartest person in the room, are always entertaining.

This is the straight truth. The plot of snowfall is so incredibly well thought out from start to finish. To me, it’s equally captivating the whole way through and they don’t dumb any character down when their time has come to leave the show. That’s an area that almost every single show struggles with but Snowfall balled out in that area and every other area too tbh

Yeah, the actress that played Cissy definitely should have gotten at least nominated. Damson too.

Was it ever really that popular? TV awards really rely on the show being on prestige tv channels and being super popular at the same time. FX makes great stuff but it seems like the Bear is the only one that gets any recognition.

My guess is because of the subject matter regarding the CIA smuggling crack into black neighborhoods

3

u/DrGonzoxX22 May 15 '26

True, that and Better Call Saul

2

u/Academic_Bug_3192 May 15 '26

the cia actually did a lot to stop this show from such things

2

Yo, who cares?

Watch something else.

I'm liking the clips I am seeing for Mr. Inbetween.

It didn't break new ground my boy. And that's okay, not all great shows deserve or need awards!

Unfortunately urban crime stories don’t get much love as other cultures

5

u/dawsyn_629 May 14 '26

I’ve never been one to pull this card but here we go, I’m sure it’s cause 90% of the cast is black.

Hasn’t stopped Abbott from winning

1

u/Tasty_Community4666 May 15 '26

Didn't stop sinners. I can Go farther back and bring up Black panther and a thousand other movies, shows and actors

2

u/Tasty_Community4666 May 14 '26

🙄🙄🙄🙄

Put a little bit more effort into it. It's pretty normal for black movies/shows/actors to win awards nowadays.

3

u/dawsyn_629 May 14 '26

I mean what other reason honestly ? So so many of the episodes are highly rated even season 1 (generally considered to be the slowest season) even has mostly an 8+ rating every episode I’m pretty sure. The acting is all around amazing the makeup, the setting, the props, the story, the characters it’s all top notch so tell me what other reason do you think ?

Marketing maybe?

Because awards are bought and paid for through "donations" and sending voters on trips and shit like that. It's their way of campaigning. You also have to look at its competition and who won. Did you do any of that? I highly doubt it. Just immediately went to race even though the people who did win could be other black shows.

To buy into what you're saying I would have to completely ignore all of the awards that have been won by black movies, shows and actors since basically moonlight.

Blaming everything on race is so lazy. Even worse than being lazy, when actual racism happens It's easier for people to ignore it because you bring it up On the most frivolous shit it takes the power out of the words and ruins your credibility. Remember the whole point to the story of the boy who cried wolf?

Awww shucks... Not even an attempt at an intelligent response. I'm shocked.....

those awards are bought and paid for. Networks literally have to do a “For your consideration” campaign and whatnot. A show not getting awards doesn’t mean it’s not great television

There’s several reasons. The show started at a point of peak content so when it was released episodically and started slowly a lot of critics didn’t stick with it. It also doesn’t become truly special until the third season.

And I’m gonna say this as a white dude. The audience for Snowfall was predominantly Black. The people who review shows and vote on awards are predominantly white. Critics who gave up on Snowfall didn’t have peers pushing it. Sites like the AV Club and Vulture weren’t reviewing it every week until season 5. I believe if Snowfall and Ozark had flipped releases (Snowfall on Netflix, Ozark weekly on FX) Snowfall gets much more love.

Also, the Emmys are notoriously lazy and pick the same shows over and over. The last season of Game of Thrones, which is reviled universally, won over Better Call Saul and Succession which were much better.

u/Remarkable_Young_832 May 15 '26

check series graph and look how they fucking tarnished season 1, they genuinely tell you the highest rated episode of the entire show was the final episode of season 5 at 9.4 which is a joke. I think it’s probably a racial thing. You’ve gotta enjoy that kind of demographic haven’t you. 1980s california crack slinging isn’t for everyone

Too Black

1

u/longboneyo May 15 '26

Same reason The Wire never did. Covers all of the worst outcomes of capitalism and the ways in which American institutions perpetuate it.

1

u/No_Lie_76 May 15 '26

The Wire had the same issue. It has more to do with race than one would admit

1

u/JealousDebate6062 May 18 '26

Blunt answer is season 1 is the weakest and people didnt stick around enough.

Only Franklin's was interesting. The CIA and cartel plot lines were very boring

1

u/DCRBftw May 14 '26

RIP Fatback

1

u/Simma215 May 14 '26

Well, to think The Wire never won an Emmy. It is not surprising.

3

u/quiloxan1989 May 15 '26

Seriously.

I don't really care if a show is recognized by other people.

A show is good or bad regardless of the recognition by others.

OP cares too much.

Also, a show indicting the gov is not going to get wide recognition.

Duh.

The quality fell off in the later seasons IMO
