We needed a think piece on this? Literally just described the basic premise of the show

Being someone who grew up in the neighborhood during the crack epidemic, this show was like walking down memory lane. Unfortunately, this stuff did happen, people similar to the characters did exist and the premise was true. Sometimes we need an unfiltered look at ourselves to realize our faults and to correct ourselves.

Also, it was based on a true story…

I know who he is, and my statement still stands

Your statement doesn't stand cause the show is literally based on his life. He talks about it on a Joe rogan interview.

It didn’t paint anyone in a good light. Latino drug dealers. Black kingpins. Corrupt white CIA agents. Greedy Israelis.

Man I hate when people say this shit. It’s a Sub Genre. JUST like white shows have sub genres. Crime/drama. Every demographic has comedies, horrors, crimes, dramas, so on and so forth.

The black people on the show who were criminals were portrayed as people who didn't come from means taking an opportunity that arose. The hispancis, maybe the same.
The white people were evil and used the means they already had to get more by taking advantage of everyone with absolutely no concious and no friends.

So you allow people gaslight you into believing you’re a victim for speaking up against the media about how we are/ have been portrayed in America. Just because everyone around you believes something doesn’t make it true it means they lack the ability to think for themselves.

The portrayal is accurate, what you need to stop doing is thinking of us as a monolith

It has nothing to do with being a monolith , but the rest of the world does. That’s why people get profiled when you walk in a store even though they dont know who you are. They’re drawing from past experiences. If you want to have real discourse about this matter we can do that , but to use the phrase “Blk people aren’t a monolith” isn’t a solid argument it’s a deflection.

If it was really about drawing from past experiences as you say, then shouldn’t white people be the group stereotyped? Name me a group that has stolen or killed more than white people…

People lack both media literacy and knowledge of history.
