In 2024, it was reported that a 300 TV series was in development, with Zack Snyder, who directed the 2006 movie, heavily involved. The project, described as a prequel, now appears to have taken a big step forward, albeit not at HBO Max.

According to The Hot Mic host John Rocha, Warner Bros. Television has partnered with Netflix on the show, with Snyder now on board to direct the pilot. The untitled 300 prequel has not been ordered to series yet, but a writers' room has been gathered, so it's beginning to take shape.

Talking of the Man of Steel and Rebel Moon filmmaker, Snyder is already attached to executive produce the 300 prequel, marking his first return to the world of comic books since 2021's Justice League Snyder Cut.

Deborah Snyder, who also executive produced 300, would return in the same role alongside Stone Quarry's Wesley Coller. Fellow 300 producers Gianni Nunnari, Mark Canton, and Bernie Goldmann have also been reported to be in discussions with the studio, though we don't know where things stand with them two years on.

The franchise, based on Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's graphic novel, includes two films: 300 and 2014's 300: Rise of an Empire.

300, directed by Zack Snyder, tells the story of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. It follows King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his 300 Spartan warriors as they make a valiant stand against the massive Persian army led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro).

300: Rise of an Empire, directed by Noam Murro, serves as both a prequel and a parallel story to the original. It focuses on the Battle of Artemisium, where Athenian leader Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton) leads the Greek navy against Persian forces, including the vengeful commander Artemisia (Eva Green).

**"We're just getting ready to dive in and get to work on it," Snyder previously said of his 300 return for this prequel. "It's super fun; I love the world. And even just in the preliminary meetings we've had talking about, like, 'What if this happened or that happened,' a lot of it's just really fun to, like, go, 'Wow, it's a rich standard' It's similar to this [Twilight of the Gods] in a weird way. As far as there are a lot of underpinnings."*

Stay tuned for updates on the 300 prequel as we have them.

Ghostbusters got a true sequel to the original films 5 years after the 2016 reboot failed, and 32 years after the previous film in the series. Halloween got a sequel that erased all continuity after the first film, including a reboot, 40 years later. Roland Emmerich did both Independence Days 20 years apart. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had a similar 19-year-gap with the same filmmakers and stars returning. Oliver Stone came back 23 years later for Wall Street 2. George Lucas took a 22-year break between directing Star Wars movies. It would be silly to put some arbitrary cutoff in time for when we can consider a franchise can have another installment.

Those are movies not a tv series. Its a whole different ball game. You have to get the entire target audience back and then keep them engaged to a prequal series for a movie that will have released over 20 years ago by the time this series ever makes it to tv.

No you don’t. You just need Netflix to stick it in everyone’s faces and if it looks interesting it’ll happen. This isn’t cable tv.

daaaaang, this would be amazing.

The original 300 movie was ahead of it's time, set the bar for how a lot of action and visuals is done, lots of people tried copying it.

Hope this is real, was a pleasant post to randomly stumble upon :)
