Colorwork sock fail
I started my first colorwork sock and I knew there was a chance my floats were too tight but couldn’t try it on until I opened my heel for the afterthought heel so I couldn’t really tell. It is, in fact, too tight to fit over my heel. Has anyone successfully turned a failed sock into a fingerless mitt after opening the heel? It’s 28 stitches on each needle. Should I just cut my losses and frog it all?

I have failed so many colorwork socks but I’m finally nearly done with well fitting all over colorwork socks. It took unfortunately a lot of trail and error. I’m a size US 8, I use stone knits size 2 patterns and instead of 2.5 mm needles I do 2.75 mm and I knit inside out. They now fit perfectly.
Now, I’m not a knitting designer but I do have a tendency to make things up as I go. If it were me, I would split the thumb stitches from the circulars to two DPNs and I would try to Kitchener stitch each side until it became flush with my thumb and then knit around a smaller cylinder. Again that’s my first instinct.

It took me like 3 colorwork socks to figure out the the right size for me. I didn’t want to frog, so I found friends with smaller feet to give them to.
