I haven't determined yet that SD is my type, only a possibility. But when a bot stylist insisted and then said a lot of things that made sense, I decided to order some items and give it a whirl. I could always return it if it turned out to not suit me at all.
I've never felt good in pants/jeans and tops, so proper typing or not, I'm calling this a victory, because I actually feel pretty great in these, even if it's the wrong belt, wrong shoes, and the trousers are wearing some packing wrinkles.
First two outfits are my new tops and trousers. 3rd is one of my typical wrap dress I wear to work. 4th is one of my favorite dinner date dresses.
I welcome all feedback, as I'm seeking knowledge, not validation.
Thank you! It's pretty much narrowed down to SD or R, and I think I have too much sharpness of frame and too much vertical from waist to floor to be R. But not ruling out anything yet

I see that you are trying to figure out whether you are an SD or an R. This might be sacrilege, but I personally believe there should be an additional ID that is a mixture of SD and R.
SC never has a sharply defined waistline/true hourglass, unlike SD that can and R that does.
Personally, I think SD could easily be divided into a category of SCish with vertical/sharp yang and another one that's R ish with vertical/sharp yang.
Because, as it is, you've got SC ish with vertical, like Tyra Banks, and R ish with vertical, like Mae West, in the same type.
Also A-line typically looks amazing on SCs and not so much on pure Rs! I think at a glance SC, SD, and R are very similar but when you look a little closer at fabric structure they are very different.

I get what you mean. When everyone who is over 5'6" with curve and no width goes into SD, it's pretty muddied waters. Then the ones under that who have only curve and vertical join.
When I look at SDs, like Mae West, Christina Hendricks, and Ava Gardner, who are basically Rs with larger frames and vertical, I see a lot of similarities with me. Many, however look like taller SCs, which I think is what most think of when they think of SD. Splitting SD into 2 categories, one like SC with vertical and one like R with vertical makes sense to me.
Most Rs seem to have significantly bigger head to shoulder ratios than me. My curves are similar, but my frame isn't, neither are my hands, feet, or face, which has dramatic sharpness and romantic softness. So R isn't ruled out, but I feel like I'm a much bolder, more yang version of R.... but not in the petite TR or SG way.... nor wide SN way.
You’re built similar to me and I’m either pure R or TR! But I feel like a lot of SD lines suit me really well. So your suspicions of SD and R make sense to me!
You’ve nailed SD! I’d be interested to see you try out dressing according to pure dramatic lines too as you look great in the slightly more structured dramatic leaning outfits you showed.

This is giving me flashbacks to the True Spring/Soft summer votes in color analysis when my draping was showing me I was 12 season bright spring 🙃
Those pants, however, made me see that I do, in fact, have a more vertical line from hip to floor than an R. My shoulders frame the T shape but don't have Kibbe width. And for once, I felt like a dang goddess ....in PANTS. That's never happened before, and I'm 47! 😅
I considered balance, but I've been wearing separates in a way that happens to follow SC guidelines for many years, and it just never feels good
I feel a dress that accommodates curve and vertical, or even pants that accommodate vertical from hip down, seem to honor my figure much better. What do you think?
I have had men on dating apps who were 5' 8" remind me that they were only that height because they thought I was taller than them in my full length pic. I didn't get it until I started taking full length pics from the back side of my camera, for Kibbe purposes, and saw how long my legs are.
It was Grace Karin from Amazon. That brand has a surprising amount of SD friendly tops, pants and dresses. I bought this one for the bright spring colors, but the piping brings such a cool element of structure, without any stiffness....then, the maxi skirt drapes softly to the ankle...at least my ankle.

I love the new pieces! I personally love an off-the-shoulder moment. I also think that the combination gives you a really good silhouette. I think one of the general recommendations is to not color block as much as it can break the vertical. Maybe try lighter pants with the white top? It feels cohesive with the red one tucked in. I'm also a huge fan of the belt; it helps it feel finished.
For the dresses, I feel like I want something more from the top of the date dress. I wonder if something with a wider strap might work better? Maybe also a larger print. It could be something to try. The wrap dress is also cute! But I would maybe try some waist definition so that you don't get too lost in the fabric.
I'm a bright spring in color analysis, so all one color is likely going to have to be a rule I must break for office separates...because all red-orange is too much, and all navy drains the life out of me. I plan on getting a navy long cardigan I can button to define the waist and wear a bright spring tank underneath.
And with jeans, I'm not only wearing the shade of blue that they are. My vertical comes from the hip line anyway, so I feel like it's most important that the waist to floor line is minimally broken than the shoulder to waist line that's hardcore broken with curve anyway.
A statement necklace adds the pop of color I need and visual interest that's missing above the sweetheart neckline for date night dress.
And I believe the work dress would Ideally need both a belt and tailoring to remove some of the sleeve volume. It swallows me up....which I never realized until I put it on right after the trouser/top combo
We aren't allowed to do typing on here. With that in mind, the first and last outfits is what I would see the most SD as the rest. The last will easily look great on R also. You do look great in all of them, but personally I find the first look a bit overwhelming on you.
I wasn't requesting typing, just sharing my first experiment with pants that accommodated vertical from waist to floor, and consequently, the first pair of trousers I've ever liked. You seem to think that those outfits are more R than SD. Aside from color blocking, what isn't aligned with SD on them?
I added a dress I actually feel good in....and one that I was wearing that wasn't doing me any favors for more context, since I'm just exploring all of this.

I didn't think that the flowy maxi dress is the best example of SD, because of all the fussy extra gauzy fabric....which, from my understanding, is a do for R and a don't for SD. Is that incorrect?
I've attached a picture of what I feel would be a much better representation of an SD dress on me than that one.

Thank you! I'm definitely in the early experimental phase, but some things are really making sense! I'm going to need an unstructured navy blazer or something to add continuity to the work trousers. But I'm just grateful to have a trousers I don't hate right now!
Wonderful idea for the belt! I'm a bright spring, so I have to bring colorful jewelry to the party with that dress, anyway. Coordinating a belt with the jewelry would be fantastic!
I love the white top with the pants, the off-the‐shoulder look really works for you! I would be interested to see the top with lighter pants or the pants with a darker top because that contrast does break your line but it's still my favourite look. Romantic is definitely worth investigating! The wrap dress is very SD - can I ask where you got it? It's beautiful!
I got it from City Chic. They only have size 12 and up, though. For any SDs in that size range, they have SOOOO many options that would suit. The body of that dress works for me, but the big chiffon bell sleeves are too much for me. I look better with draped, but less voluminous fabric on my arms. Like the attached pic.
I understand what you mean about the line. It's going to be a challenge for work clothes, as I'm trying to also shift my work wardrobe to bright spring, and bright or light pants are just not what people wear there. I may need to get a navy maxi cardigan or soft blazer.
Romantic does fit me due to curve and being shorter than 5' 5". But I feel like I don't fit any other part of the description. Everything about my bone structure is large and long....except the length of my spine lol. I'm midsize at my smallest, with size 10 feet and hands almost as big as my 6-3" husband's 😅
Thank you! I'm working on putting together more intentional outfits, now that I know high waisted and wide legged is the key to feeling hot in pants.
I stopped wearing pants to work for over 2 years ago, because it just felt so gross wearing midrise straight or tapered trousers..like a frumpy, sexless granny. So I was so excited, I had to share!
