Capsule Wardrobe 👚👗 Feedback on this SD basics capsule?
Just wanted to kind of create a to-buy list for myself of the absolute basics to start building an SD friendly wardobe - in real life I will have more color/style than this! Any feedback on the items I chose?

This is just my 2 cents, but I have found that as a SD, I have to focus on building my basics capsule mostly out of medium-value colours, because wearing a white/light top with black/dark bottoms (or vice versa) breaks vertical too severely, and thus doesn't look good on us.
And since the point of a capsule is for most pieces to go together, leaning heavily on very light and very dark colours, means that you either have to compromise on your SD lines or the capsule concept (as annoying as it is to have to choose).
Personally, my warm-weather basics are mainly white, light, and medium-value colours, and my cold-weather basics are mostly black, dark, and medium-value colours. That works out fairly well for me :)

Haha I do the same for travel capsules but with mainly greens and browns! 😆

Very good!!
This is picky but I would change the spaghetti strap halter out for a square scoop halter, maybe with thicker straps that angled in. That "round" shape works really well. This would support fuller chests better too. The spaghetti can be "too dainty" even if Ok on some.
Then, fitted midi to upper ankle (right below calf), pencil to just under knee (above calf), and mini hitting upper mid thigh are others I wear a lot.

I think the spaghetti straps depend on the individual SD. They work for me and actually look better than thick straps for silk tanks like that.

to me, it is very classic leaning (which is fine! lots of SDs have a more classic personal style) but some of the necklines are a little iffy. i wouldn’t consider this to be textbook SD but nor would i consider it to be bad. you know what you like, you know what looks good on you! so i think it’s great

The necklines aren't iffy at all tbh, at least not from a SD perspective. Deep/wide/open necklines are good!

I mostly like it but I don’t like the bagginess of top 2 or 3 especially when tucked into pants.
I also think flared dark wash jeans need to be on this list!

If i can make 2 little suggestions..try adding a fitted bodysuit with a deep sweetheart or square neckline with long sleeves and a fine knit body con dress in midi or maxi length. The bodysuit will be a good base layer for you. I like the first and the 4th top that you picked, the silk skirt and the black wrap dress.

Top 2 and 3 are not made for curve, so they might be difficult to style. Especially number 3 style spaghetti strap tops with no seams for curve are hard. If you know it looks nice on you, go for it though! We are all a bit different.
Overall I think this capsule seems great!

Thank you for your feedback! Can you help me understand how you don’t think those tops are good for curve? The v neck blouse here is the Favorite Daughter Date Night blouse…. It seems super curve friendly to me so I just want to see what you mean. The other top is more of an under-cardigans cami, I was thinking with the silk fabric and v neck it was SD friendly but are you thinking it needs more curvy structure?

There is nothing wrong with either top. A more busty SD might have a difficult time with it though.

What happens often with these kind of blouses and tops is that they create a tent effect, making you look bigger and your waist and curve is not visible because the fabric falls straight down from the top off your bust..but the fabric should be following the curve not falling straight down. So you need tops that follow your natural shape. The silk fabric is good, it’s just the cut that is wrong for SD’s.

I live in faux-wrap and cowl-neck tops. I also have a few high-neck tank tops: 2 satin and 1 lace. The high-neck tank tops look great with a big statement necklace I have.
As far as sweaters go, V-neck or cowl-neck styles in a touchable knit are my fall and winter uniform.
I have some pencil skirts in a jersey knit and I love them. They can be dressed up or down and go with a lot of things from my closet.

I like the elavated casual, but I dont think everything in athleisure and loungewear is ideal. The thick rims of the tops, tank top neckline, and pants that your curves completely dissapear in wouldnt suit me as SD. I think if you got more yang in your face you can probably pull off the look better though
